General 0 Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for two Pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in October at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). They are Basic Construction and Human Resource Assistant. Basic Construction, which will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Oct. 18-29, includes construction math, power and hand tools, construction site safety, construction drawings, employability, communication skills and introduction to material handling. The Pathway to Employment in Construction program is a nationally-recognized certification for Construction Core designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Successful participants who pass the examination will be eligible for entry-level construction jobs. Human Resource Assistant will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Oct. 7-Nov. 4. The program prepares individuals to work closely with the human resources supervisor to perform routine personnel-related, recruitment and/or onboarding work. It is ideal for someone who would like to enter the human resources and/or talent management field. The Society for Human Resource Management Essentials of Human Resources, which is the curriculum used, provides an introductory overview of key HR topics and the fundamental issues surrounding HR to help the individual effectively approach the daily issues and situations presented on the job. They include Business Office Specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT Basic, Food Service, Enhanced Forklift Operator, Google IT Support Certificate, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Phlebotomy Technician. Business Office Specialist will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Jan. 11-May 5. It is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students will have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks® certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Excel and Word. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Beginning Sign Language II, Microsoft Excel for Beginners, ServSafe, ACT Prep and Forklift Operator Training. Certified Nursing Assistant meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Mar. 20-May 24. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Certified Nursing Assistant, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. from March 24-May 28, prepares participants to take the exam to become a CNA. The cost is $526 which includes the required Board License Examination fee. Food Management Certification will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., March 24-April 18. During the hands-on, four-week class, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Included in the curriculum are both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol certifications, menu planning preparation, assistance with and execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations. Registration underway for Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification class Registration is underway for a day class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program, which will begin Jan. 13, 2020 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet Mondays through Thursdays through Feb. 27 from 8 a.m.-noon. The program is designed to prepare participants desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and will earn nationally-recognized credentials. Developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the north Mississippi region, the 94-hour MSBC program includes three national credentials – 10-hour OSHA, the American Heart Association’s CPR and the Career Readiness Certificate.
