• Ashley Charitable Foundation donates $500,000 to ICC's Commercial Truck Driving program

  Itawamba Community College’s Commercial Truck Driving program will benefit from a $500,000 donation from the Ashley Charitable Foundation (ACF), a nonprofit organization founded by Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC and committed to supporting education and workforce development, presented this afternoon at the Tupelo Campus. Among those participating in the event were Ron Wanek, Founder and Chairman of Ashley Furniture Industries, and Dr. Jay Allen, President of Itawamba Community College. The presentation also included a special congratulatory video by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves. This contribution marks ACF's continued dedication to partnering with higher education institutions to drive growth in the workforce. • ICC breaks ground on Commercial Truck Driving Training Center

  Itawamba Community College broke ground today (Oct. 21) for its Commercial Truck Driving Training Center which will be located at the new driving range across the street from the Tupelo Campus at 2176 So. Eason Blvd.             The 8,504-square-foot facility will include multiple truck bays, lab with a truck driving simulator, classroom, exterior wash bay, three offices and storage space.             “Today we break ground on a facility that will not only enhance our institution but will also help us to better meet a need in our region and beyond,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This new Commercial Truck Driving Training Center symbolizes more than the start of another construction project, but represents our continued commitment to education, workforce development and the future of our students. • Registration underway for ICC Pathway programs to begin in September

              Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in September at the Belden Center.             They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Commercial Truck Driving, Human Resources Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Basic Construction, Introduction to Industrial Maintenance and Electrician Assistant.             Certified Nursing Assistant will meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Sept. 21-Oct. 6.  The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics.             Commercial Truck Driving begins Sept. 9 and will meet from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Oct. 2. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough knowledge of log books, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.             Options include four weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., or eight-week classes and eight-week internship.             Enrollment requirements include U.S. citizen or Puerto Rico valid driver’s license; copy of good driving record; acceptable driving record with no more than two speeding tickets in the previous three years and no DUIs or DWUIs in the previous five years; pass DOT physical and drug screening ...
• Registration underway at ICC for three career pathway programs to begin Jan. 30 at Belden Center

              Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for three career pathway programs that will begin January 30 at the Belden Center.             They include Electrician Assistant, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting.             Electrician Assistant will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Feb. 29. The program prepares individuals to work closely with their supervising electrician to perform routine electrical work. It provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential wiring. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Cost is $370.             In the 16-session Small Engine Repair pathway, students prepare for a career as they develop skills in basic maintenance, recoil systems, fuel systems, ignition systems/electrical circuits and disassembling and rebuilding small engines. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 28 from 6-9 p.m. Those who successfully complete the program are prepared for entry-level technician positions at an existing small engine repair business or potentially opening their own shop.   Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for three career pathway programs that will begin in February at the Belden Center.                 They include Food Management Certification, Welding and Cutting and Electrician Assistant.                 Food Management Certification will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., February 18-March 21. During the hands-on, four-week class, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Included in the curriculum are both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol certifications, menu planning preparation, assistance with and execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations. Cost is $460, but tuition assistance and scholarships are available for qualified applicants.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills in welding and cutting. The intent is to prepare students to do the very basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and businesses require.
