William Winter Scholar

Suzette Potts of Saltillo, English composition and British literature instructor, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2017.

 

            She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 28th Annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 23-25 in Natchez.

            Potts, who is in her eighth year at ICC, earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi University for Women plus 30 hours of post graduate work in English. She is a graduate of Saltillo High School, where she was the salutatorian. Potts taught nine years in the public schools for West Point, Nettleton and Saltillo and 25 years in home education. In 2012, she won the Ovid S. Vickers Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English. She has been married 43 years to Roger Potts, and they have five children and eight grandchildren. They are active members of Gumtree Presbyterian Church in Tupelo.

            The theme of the conference, which is sponsored by Copiah-Lincoln Community College, the City of Natchez, Adams County Board of Supervisors, Mississippi Development Authority, Mississippi Humanities Council and the Mississippi Bicentennial Commission, is “Mississippi: A Literary Journey.”
