ICC receives AACC grant to support National Voter Registration Day event Itawamba Community College has received a grant from the American Association of Community Colleges to host an event to support National Voter Registration Day. The $2,700 grant will be used to engage students in voter registration, according to Nathan Ward, director of Instructional Support Services, who along with Lynn Millender, Social Science division chair, submitted the application. “For several years, our Social Science Division has coordinated our annual Constitution Day event at ICC, and many of those focused on voter registration,” Millender said. “With this award from AACC, this year we will have an opportunity to impact students on both the ICC Fulton and Tupelo campuses as well as the Belden Center by participating in National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 17. Join ICC's Alumni Association and for a limited time, receive a free Mississippi custom car license plate Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for Mississippi residents, especially its alumni, to share its message through displaying a custom car license plate. For a limited time, residents of the state can join ICC’s Alumni Association for a $20 yearly membership fee, and receive the license plate free of charge, according to Michael Upton, director of Advancement. Incoming ICC Alumni Association President Joey Cox of Fulton has already ordered a tag to support the College. “I am very proud of my association with ICC and enjoyed my time spent here. ICC, one of two in Mississippi, receives Metallica's All Within My Hands grant All Within My Hands, the nonprofit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, has announced the largest expansion of its Metallica Scholars Initiative and its largest grant to date. With the launch of year six, 18 new colleges join the roster of existing MSI community colleges. The Metallica Scholars Initiative now has a presence in 60 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam. Itawamba Community College, which is in year two, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College represent Mississippi. ICC's Baldwin, Gammill selected as MCCPF participants Dylan Baldwin of Pontotoc, dean of Career Education, and Josh Gammill of Fulton, director of Continuing Education, have been selected to represent Itawamba Community College as participants in the Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program. Baldwin earned the associate’s degree from ICC, the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He joined the ICC faculty in 2013 as Collision Repair Technology instructor. His honors include 2023 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy, 2017 Mississippi Community College Board Leadership Academy, Community College representative for the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development and secretary of the Mississippi Career Technical Officers Association. Baldwin, and his wife, Monica, are the parents of a nine-year-old daughter, Mia. ICC's fall Senior College session to kick off Aug. 21 at Belden Center Itawamba Community College’s fall session of Senior College will kick off Aug. 21 with a performance by Elvis Presley impersonator Jack Curtis of Tupelo and a celebration of Senior Citizens Day. Curtis has donned the flashy white jumpsuit, reminiscent of the King of Rock and Roll, to entertain fans at various events. His renditions of Elvis classics like “Love Me Tender” have left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to witness his act. Curtis has been an Elvis Tribute Artist for more than 30 years. He won first place three consecutive years in the “Images of Elvis” regionals and finished in the top five in the finals in Memphis, Tenn. Curtis also performed with a live band and backup singers in the first Tupelo Elvis Festival in 1999. ICC formally reopens Monroe, Sheffield Halls during July 30 ceremonies Itawamba Community College formally reopened both Monroe and Sheffield Halls during two ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Fulton Campus today (July 30). In two weeks, residents will move into Monroe’s now single-occupancy rooms and benefit from the first of a two-phase renovation of Sheffield Hall. “This morning, we are standing in front of one of our oldest residential facilities, Monroe Hall,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This building, which consisted of our smallest rooms, housed two students per room. With the complete renovation of this hall, we are now able to offer single occupancy rooms with a shared bathroom for every two rooms. Each floor is customizable to house separated males and females under the same roof, just like Magnolia Hall.” The $2.2 million renovation of Monroe Hall, which first opened in 1968, was designed with students’ needs and aspirations in mind, Allen said. “The upgraded facilities provide modern amenities, increased comfort and spaces that foster community and collaboration. Six receive ICC Diagnostic Medical Sonography degrees in special ceremony Several area residents from Itawamba Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program received their degrees at a special event, July 23, at the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus.
