General 0 Itawamba Community College’s film students played a vital role in the filming of a new TV show at the Tupelo Campus during spring break. The students worked as the crew for “DPW” (Department of Public Works) for which a screening is scheduled at 7 p.m., Oct. 13, at the Link Centre in Tupelo. The public is invited. Professionals from Los Angeles were hired for the main film positions by New Jersey producer PJ Leonard. According to Morgan Cutturini, sponsor of ICC’s Film Club and English instructor, in this sitcom, the team of intellectually-challenged employees must eventually work together to save each other from embarrassment and from being fired. Three of the show’s stars include Obba Babatunde′ (from “Madame Secretary” and “Grey’s Anatomy”), Josh Sussman (from “Glee”) and James Madio (from “Hook” and “Band of Brothers”). ICC pathway programs set to begin in October Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in October. They include Certified Nursing Assistant (two classes), Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification, Basic Construction and Quality Improvement Associate. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 12-Dec. 16, and the day class will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Oct. 12-27. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Commercial Truck Driving begins Oct. 12 and will meet Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Nov. 6. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. ICC's Travel Tribe sets Ignite the Fight 5K, Oct. 26 Itawamba Community College’s Travel Tribe is inviting everyone to lace up their running shoes and participate in its Ignite the Fight 5K to raise awareness for breast cancer research and money for its program. The glow run will begin at 6 p.m., Oct. 26, at the Fulton Campus Cypress Pavilion. Awards will be given in multiple divisions. Those who preregister by the Oct. 15 deadline will receive a t-shirt. ICC film student work set for Friday screening in Oxford A screening of ‘The Quest for Justice: NMRLS Oral History Project” by Itawamba Community College’s film students will be from 2-3 p.m., Mar. 25, at the Malco Theatre in Oxford. The film is a multi-year project with the North Mississippi Rural Legal Services for which ICC’s students received a Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance grant to complete. ICC to sponsor innovative dinner and demo series in October Itawamba Community College will sponsor a dinner and demo series at three Tupelo restaurants beginning Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. at Forklift with chef Cooper Miller. Additional sessions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., October 17, at Neon Pig with chef Brooke Ramsey and at 6 p.m., Oct. 24, at Park Heights with chef Tom Lester. “The chefs at each location will provide a demonstration related to the dinner preparation, which will follow,” according to Josh Gammill, ICC director of Continuing Education, which is cosponsoring the series with the Food Management Certification pathway. “The three local restaurants and their executive chefs have created a unique interactive experience for participants,” Gammill said.
