General 0 Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in November. They include Basic Construction, Certified Nursing Assistant, Commercial Truck Driving and Food Service Pathway. The Basic Construction class will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Nov. 9-20. It is a nationally-recognized certification for Construction Core designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. The curriculum includes construction math, power and hand tools, construction site safety, construction drawings, employability, communication skills and introduction to material handling. Successful participants who pass the NCCER examination will be eligible for entry-level construction jobs. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Nov. 2-17. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Commercial Truck Driving begins Nov. 16 and will meet Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Dec. 18. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. Food Service Pathway will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Nov. 9-Dec. 11. The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. Students who meet eligibility requirements may qualify for tuition assistance. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Aug. 10 (Monday, Wednesday – 5-9 p.m.); Phlebotomy Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5:30-9:30 p.m.); Pharmacy Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.); Emergency Medical Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5-10 p.m.); Business Office Specialist, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5:30-9:30 p.m.); Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.); and Basics of Residential Wiring, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.) ICC’s pathway programs are designed to prepare individuals with the high-performance skills necessary to enter the job market or to transition to an advanced related program at the College. Registration underway at ICC for three career pathway programs to begin Jan. 30 at Belden Center Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for three career pathway programs that will begin January 30 at the Belden Center. They include Electrician Assistant, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Electrician Assistant will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Feb. 29. The program prepares individuals to work closely with their supervising electrician to perform routine electrical work. It provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential wiring. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Cost is $370. In the 16-session Small Engine Repair pathway, students prepare for a career as they develop skills in basic maintenance, recoil systems, fuel systems, ignition systems/electrical circuits and disassembling and rebuilding small engines. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 28 from 6-9 p.m. Those who successfully complete the program are prepared for entry-level technician positions at an existing small engine repair business or potentially opening their own shop.
