16 December ICC schedules spring 2025 Senior College sessions December 16, 2024 By Thomas, Donna S. General 0 Itawamba Community College’s spring 2025 session of Senior College will kick off Jan. 15 with a presentation by Three Rivers Planning and Development District that will focus on the services they provide for individuals ages 55 and older. According to Kelleigh Riddle, Area Agency on Aging director, the many services include Title V employment (training and locating part-time employment for eligible participants) as well as the Medicaid Waiver Division, which is a statewide program designed to offer assistance to qualified Medicaid beneficiaries. It allows qualified individuals to remain in a home- or community-based setting as an alternative to nursing facility care or other institutional care. TRPDD services also include information and referral, Ombudsman, Homemaker and Respite and opportunities for the elderly and handicapped residents of Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties in northeast Mississippi. “ICC’s Senior College is designed for those who are retired and looking for something fun to do,” said Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education. “The sessions offer wonderful opportunities for community members to learn more about topics specific to our area, stay active in the community and engage with other participants who share the same enthusiasm and zest for life and learning as they do. The January program will provide much-needed information to address not only current and potential needs of the participants, but also possibly those of their loved ones for whom they are caregivers.” Additional dates include Feb. 12, Roy Turner, executive director of the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation, who will share “All Things Tupelo and Elvis;” Mar. 19, the history of ICC’s Belden Center (how it evolved from a discarded manufacturing facility to an unparalleled career education center); Apr. 16, tour of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi at Blue Springs; and May 14, Spring Fling. Sessions meet at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) from 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $30 per person or $50 per couple per semester. The first session is free.
