ICC students win state creative writing awards

Several Itawamba Community College students recently received awards from the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association for their work.

            They include Blake Lyon of Smithville, first place in Drama for “Happy Anniversary;” Luke Nichols of Tupelo, second place in Drama for “AD&D 5e Story – Chapter 1;” and Tyrianna Brooks of Okolona, honorable mention in Short Story for “Don’t Go.” In addition, ICC’s literary magazine, The Calliope, placed first.  Editors are Shawn Whittington of Saltillo, art; and English instructor Keith Morris of Tupelo, poetry.

            State-level winners received certificates and a copy of Writer, which publishes the student winners. Statewide first and second place winners received monetary prizes of $100 and $60 respectively.
