20 February ICC to host 'Evening of the Arts,' March 6 February 20, 2025 By Thomas, Donna S. General 0 Itawamba Community College will host an “Evening of the Arts,” at 7 p.m., Mar. 6, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. The show will feature 10-minute performances including a theatre scene from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” wind ensemble, steel drum ensemble, live art demonstration by Shawn Whittington, CenterStage, Jazz Band and Chamber Singers. The $10 admission ticket also includes a pre-event social at 6 p.m. that will include light appetizers and an opportunity to experience the Steinway and Sons Spirio Piano, which is in residency at ICC for one month. Those who contribute more than $50 during the event will be eligible for a drawing for the live art piece. Related Articles ICC to host Tomahawk Marching Band Competition Bands across the Mid-South will participate in Itawamba Community College’s Tomahawk Marching Band Championship, Oct. 19, at Eaton Field/Butch Lambert Stadium at the Fulton Campus. School classifications 1A-2A will begin at 10:45 a.m. with awards at 2 p.m., and 4A-5A will begin at 3 p.m. with awards at 8:30 p.m. Bands will perform in both a competitive and educational environment. Adjudicators from across the nation will critique bands, color guard and percussion with the same caption-based criteria used in the MHSAA State Marching Band Championships. Adjudication captions will include General Effect, Music Performance, Ensemble Visual Performance, Ensemble General Effect, Visual Music Performance, Individual Visual Performance and Individual Color Guard Percussion. Bands that are participating include Hamilton, Smithville, Mantachie, Bruce, East Webster, Eupora, Booneville, Amory, Hatley, Aberdeen, Nettleton, Kosciusko, Caledonia, North Pontotoc, South Pontotoc, Itawamba, Ripley, Pontotoc, New Albany, Saltillo, Columbus, New Hope, Lafayette, Oxford, Olive Branch, Lewisburg and Tupelo as well as a performance by the Itawamba Community College All-American Band. Registration underway for March career pathways at ICC-Belden Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for two career pathway programs that will begin in March at the Belden Center. They include Certified Nursing Assistant and Food Management Certification. Certified Nursing Assistant, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. from March 24-May 28, prepares participants to take the exam to become a CNA. Upon successful completion of the program and examination, nursing assistants can find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. The cost is $526 which includes the required Board License Examination fee. Food Management Certification will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., March 24-April 18. During the hands-on, four-week class, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Included in the curriculum are both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol certifications, menu planning preparation, assistance with and execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations. ICC to host Code Blue and Red event, Mar. 11 Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 8:45 a.m.-noon, March 11, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Fifty-six students from Itawamba and Lee Counties Career and Technical Centers and Mooreville and North Pontotoc High Schools will be on campus to view this simulation of three scenarios: a COVID patient, labor and delivery and a trauma accident, which will showcase seven health science programs, said Michael Holloway, recruitment coordinator and adviser. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said, “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant, Paramedic, Respiratory Care, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology. ICC to Host Second Annual “Choptoberfest” Tailgate Ahead of Rivalry Game Itawamba Community College will host its second annual Choptoberfest tailgate celebration on Thursday, October 24, beginning at 5 p.m. at the ICC Grove on the Fulton Campus. The family-friendly event will take place ahead of the ICC Indians’ home football matchup against Northeast Mississippi Community College. This year’s Choptoberfest will feature food, music, games and activities for the whole family, creating a festive atmosphere as the ICC community gears up for one of the most spirited events of the year. Pregame festivities for the football game are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Eaton Field. Earlier in the day, ICC will host its Fall Preview Day, welcoming registered high school seniors from across the region to explore campus, meet with faculty and staff and experience college life firsthand.
