  Itawamba Community College sophomores TayaRenea Leigh Baggett of Hamilton and Chloe Evans of Plantersville have been selected as semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Baggett is majoring in music education with emphasis on trumpet. Her activities and honors include Phi Theta Kappa, choir, chamber choir, brass ensemble, band, Honors College, President’s List, recipient of the Dean’s and Linda Kay Gilreath Endowed Scholarships and former member of CenterStage. She is a member of St. James Catholic Church where she is in the choir. Baggett’s parents are Christie and Joseph Hesse. Evans’ activities and honors at ICC include Band/Indianette, Indian Delegation president, Lead Orientation Leader, Student Government Association At-Large representative, Phi Theta Kappa vice president of leadership, Sigma Kappa Delta president, Honors College, Chieftain staff writer, Fashion Tribe graphic designer, Baptist Student Union and Wesley Foundation. • ICC's Logan selected as Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship semifinalist

  Itawamba Community College sophomore Emma Logan of Fulton has been selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Logan is majoring in psychology. Her activities and honors include member of the ICC soccer team, Honors College, Sigma Kappa Delta, Phi Theta Kappa officer, Supplemental Instructor for English, President’s List, Communications Division award recipient and Creative Writing Competition Literary Essay category award winner. Logan has also been recognized by PTK as a member of the Distinguished Officer Team. She attends The Orchard in Tupelo. She will transfer to the University of Mississippi with plans to earn a master’s degree in psychology and later apply to the FBI Academy. • ICC's Bowers selected as 2022 William Winter Scholar

              Jenny Bowers of Tupelo, English instructor and Phi Theta Kappa adviser, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2022.             She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 33rd Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 24-26.             Bowers joined the ICC faculty in 2002 as an adjunct instructor and became full-time in 2011. Also, she has served as Writing Center consultant and director.             She earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. Her awards and honors include National Merit Finalist and for Phi Theta Kappa, Five-Star Adviser, Bennie Warren Outstanding Adviser for the MS/LA Region (two years) and the Horizon Award for New Advisers.             Bowers is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, National English Honorary; Delta Kappa Gamma, Organization of Women Educators; and Regional Advisory Board for the MS/LA Region of PTK. • ICC's McIntosh selected as one of 50 Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholars

              Itawamba Community College sophomore TJ McIntosh of Wren has been selected as one of 50 students in the nation as 2020 Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholars.             Recipients of the prestigious award will receive up to $40,000 per year to help cover the cost of educational expenses such as tuition, living expenses, books and required fees as they complete their bachelor’s degree. Additionally, Cooke Scholars are eligible to apply for up to $75,000 of funding toward graduate school.             “We know that this is a very uncertain time for many students and their families,” said Seppy Basili, executive director of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. “We remain deeply committed to supporting high-achieving community college students to ensure they have the resources to reach their full academic potential. • ICC's Thornton selected as member of MAST board of directors

  Alicia King Thornton of Tupelo, Surgical Technology program director at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a member of the board of directors for the Mississippi Association of Surgical Technology for a two-year term.             A native of Verona, Thornton is a graduate of Shannon High School and ICC (Associate of Arts degree). She was accepted into the Surgical Technology program in the summer of 2012 and earned the Associate of Applied Sciences degree in 2013. Her additional education background includes certification as Surgical First Assistant (training with Baptist Hospital) and the Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Mississippi.             Her employment history includes Baptist Golden Triangle in Columbus and East Mississippi Community College (Surgical Technology program director). • ICC, Regional Rehab Center launch innovative partnership

  Itawamba Community College and the Regional Rehabilitation Center have launched an innovative partnership with the addition of free adult education classes.             ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and Adult Education Director Linzy Patterson and Regional Rehab Center Executive Director Robby Parman welcomed the first students to class, Jan. 5.             “For ICC, we’ve had a long-standing relationship with the Regional Rehab Center, so this partnership was a no-brainer,” Allen said. “The idea was to move the needle for the communities we serve, and the Regional Rehab Center has a great ministry. The path to prosperity goes through education, and this is a tremendous opportunity to help people who did not achieve that education in high school, and we’re really good at that.”             Allen said that both entities refer students and clients to each other, and over the years, ICC has hosted numerous fundraisers for the Regional Rehab Center, so this is an ideal partnership.             The classes meet from 1-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays at the center, which is located at 615 Pegram Drive in Tupelo.             Parman said that the idea for ...
