Registration underway at ICC for Basic Construction, HR Assistant pathways Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for two Pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in October at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). They are Basic Construction and Human Resource Assistant. Basic Construction, which will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Oct. 18-29, includes construction math, power and hand tools, construction site safety, construction drawings, employability, communication skills and introduction to material handling. The Pathway to Employment in Construction program is a nationally-recognized certification for Construction Core designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Successful participants who pass the examination will be eligible for entry-level construction jobs. Human Resource Assistant will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Oct. 7-Nov. 4. The program prepares individuals to work closely with the human resources supervisor to perform routine personnel-related, recruitment and/or onboarding work. It is ideal for someone who would like to enter the human resources and/or talent management field. Virtual Construction Lab Opens at ICC with Eutaw Construction Donation Itawamba Community College celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new Virtual Construction Lab, located in the John Crubaugh Education Building on the Fulton Campus, with local construction partners, industry leaders, students and ICC leadership in attendance on Tuesday, November 11. The innovative lab will serve students in the Construction Management Technology program, offering immersive, hands-on learning experiences that mirror real-world conditions even when weather or other factors limit access to traditional jobsites. The space features a Caterpillar Excavation Simulator, generously donated by Eutaw Construction, along with Oculus virtual reality headsets and Interplay learning software that provide cutting-edge training opportunities for students. “This new lab is a prime example of how ICC continues to advance workforce education in ways that meet both student and industry needs,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “By combining traditional skills with emerging technology, we’re preparing students for the future of construction management and helping meet the demand for skilled professionals across our region.” Scott Emison, program director for Construction Management Technology, said the addition of the Virtual Construction Lab marks a significant step forward for the program. ... ICC Construction Management graduates commit to careers, university transfers Itawamba Community College hosted its annual Construction Management Technology Signing Day ceremony prior to commencement exercises on Friday, May 15, recognizing graduating sophomores as they officially committed to the next step in their careers and education. The event was organized in partnership with North MS FORGE, a regional network of construction industry employers focused on promoting workforce development and increasing awareness of career opportunities within the construction industry across local schools and communities. During the ceremony, 23 graduating second-year Construction Management Technology students signed letters of intent representing employment commitments with industry partners, transfer plans to four-year universities or their continued pursuit of careers within the construction workforce. They include Certified Nursing Assistant (two classes), Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification, Basic Construction and Quality Improvement Associate. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 12-Dec. 16, and the day class will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Oct. 12-27. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Commercial Truck Driving begins Oct. 12 and will meet Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Nov. 6. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles.
