Upon completion of the 12-month (three semester) program, the graduate will receive a certificate and will be eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensed practical nurses work under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. They provide direct patient care including treatments and medication delivery in nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, physician’s offices, schools and private homes. ICC celebrates April as National Welding Month; students in Metallica class share their stories Chris Adair of Saltillo is a student in Itawamba Community College’s welding class that has been funded by a grant from Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands. He and his classmates as well as all students in ICC’s welding classes are joining in the celebration of April as National Welding Month. Adair said that enrolling in the class was a great opportunity to learn welding. “I’m hooked on a hobby that I can have for a lifetime.” His grandfather was a welder for both the Navy and NASA. “I would have made my grandfather proud. I can feel his arms on mine when I stick weld.” A general studies graduate in 2018, Adair said he didn’t know what his future would bring. He said he spent a lot of time playing video games. “I didn’t know what to do. I saw the opportunity and decided to go for it. I was nervous at first, but I’ve started a hobby that I enjoy.” Adair and his classmates have different stories, but their chance meeting in ICC’s welding class has given them ... ICC adds ZOOM only option for spring classes Itawamba Community College students will have a fifth option for class delivery during the 2021 spring semester with the addition of ZOOM only. According to Dr. Michelle Sumerel, vice president of instructional services, the classes will be offered via ZOOM in real time with a real instructor. “The option will afford students the opportunity to be more engaged and more interactive with their instructors.” As classes fill, Sumerel said, more will be added to the 2021 spring semester schedule to enable students to take advantage of this option. They can request ZOOM only classes when they meet with their advisers to schedule classes, Sumerel noted. ICC offers intersession classes beginning Aug. 2 Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for students to enroll in four traditional classes during an intersession, which begins Aug. 2 and ends with final examinations on Aug. 13, prior to the beginning of the 2021 fall semester. The schedule includes English Composition I, American Literature I, College Life and Public Speaking I. All classes meet on a Monday through Friday schedule at the Fulton Campus. “Traditionally, ICC has offered classes during an intersession between the conclusion of the spring semester and the beginning of the summer semester,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, vice president of enrollment services. “These classes will enable students to enroll and complete traditional academic classes that are requirements for most associate degree programs in a compacted format.
