General 0 Nov. 1 is the deadline for application for a practical nursing class beginning in January 2019 at Itawamba Community College. Upon completion of the 12-month (three semester) program, the graduate will receive a certificate and will be eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensed practical nurses work under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. They provide direct patient care including treatments and medication delivery in nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, physician’s offices, schools and private homes. Business Office Specialist will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Jan. 11-May 5. It is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students will have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks® certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Excel and Word. Additional instruction and training include performance of technical office tasks, basic math, fundamentals of bookkeeping and human resource management. Individuals 18 years of age and older will begin at 9 a.m., and 16-/17-year-old students, 1 p.m. Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended.
