General 0 Ten members of Itawamba Community College’s faculty and staff have been selected to participate in its Leadership Development Institute for 2018-19. They include Jon Armstrong of Fulton, English instructor; Billy Carson of Saltillo, lead online instructor for business administration and director for the hospitality management program; Deanna Duckworth of Mantachie, adult education and adjunct English instructor; Dr. Melissa Haab of Louisville, dean of enrollment services; Jake Hartfield of Fulton, coordinator of student activities; Ira Lindsay Kinard Jones of Houston, mathematics instructor; Andy Kirk of Fulton, head softball coach and health, physical education and recreation instructor; Dr. Cass Patrick of Tupelo, fine arts division chair; Nina Strother of Fulton, director of community relations; and Tzer Nan (TZ) Waters of Tupelo, lead workforce trainer. Armstrong, who has been a member of the ICC faculty since 2007, earned the associate’s degree from ICC, bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. His honors include the 2013 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development award, 2017 ICC Humanities Teacher of the Year Award and author of the textbook currently used for ICC’s beginning English and reading classes. Armstrong also collaborated with professional filmmakers on a Film Club project as well as coordinated an English roundtable event. He and his wife, Ashley, are the parents of two children. Carson’s educational background includes both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. He was the recipient of ICC’s meritorious award in 2018. He and his wife, Kimberly, have two children. Duckworth previously served as workforce accountability/information specialist at ICC. She earned the associate’s degree from Northeast Mississippi Community College and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. Duckworth’s honors include ICC Adult Education Teacher of the Year for 2017-18. Haab, who joined the ICC staff in 2018, previously served as dean of enrollment management at Coastal Alabama Community College. Her educational background includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and the doctoral degree from the University of South Alabama. She and her husband, Glen, have two children. Hartfield came to ICC this summer from the University of South Carolina where he was area coordinator with university housing. His educational background includes the associate’s degree from Hinds Community College and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. His honors include SEAHO New Professional of the Year; Directors award, USC and New Professional of the Year, USC, both in university housing. He and his wife, Amanda, have one child. Kinard-Jones was formerly a teacher at Lafayette High School in Oxford. She joined the ICC faculty in 2008. Her educational background includes the associate’s degree from ICC and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. She expects to earn her doctoral degree from Mississippi State University in December. Kinard-Jones is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Her honors include the 2018 Phi Theta Kappa Advisor award. She married Natdrick Jones in August. Kirk’s employment history includes teacher and coach at East Union Attendance Center, West Union Attendance Center and New Albany High School, graduate baseball assistant at Delta State University and volunteer baseball coach at Ball State University. He earned the bachelor’s degree from Union University and the master’s degree from Delta State University. Kirk’s honors are 2018 Mississippi Association of Coaches and MACJC Softball Coach of the Year, 2012-2013 MACJC North Division Coach of the Year and Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Softball Coach of the Year. He is married to the former Dana Whitfield and has two children. Before he joined the ICC faculty, Patrick was director of classical guitar and jazz studies programs at Auburn University. He earned bachelor’s (two) and master’s degrees as well as the doctoral degree from the University of Mississippi. Patrick’s honors include ICC Humanities Teacher of the Year Award. He and his wife, Amy, have two children. Strother earned the associate’s degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College and bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College. Her employment background includes director of graphic design and photography (2016-18) at ICC, communication specialist at Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency and account management and marketing director at DIG Creative + Solutions. Strother’s honors are adviser for the 2018 yearbook that placed second among Mississippi’s community colleges, two first place awards and three second place awards in the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi annual competition, the 2016 PRISM award, 2014 PRAM Best of Show and the 2014 Award of Excellence from the Southern Public Relations Federation. She and her husband, David, have two children. Waters previously served as workforce trainer for ICC, project engineer for Lane and quality engineering manager for La-Z-Boy. She earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. Waters’ honors include author/co-author of six papers for scientific journals in the area of industrial ergonomics and completion of the MDA Ambassador program. She and her husband, Mike, are the parents of three children. ICC selects 2018-19 Hall of Fame Twelve Itawamba Community College sophomores have been selected as members of the prestigious Hall of Fame for 2018-19. They include Jake Kirkpatrick of Aberdeen; Laura Buskirk of Amory; Matthew Burrows of Dorsey; Brandon Adair, Reagan Newton, both of Guntown; Carter Wood of Mantachie; Ben Seay of Mooreville; Nikki Bullock of New Albany; Makaela Dickerson of Smithville; Gregory Parker Anderson, Karlee Avery and Anna John Hand, all of Tupelo. Adair is majoring in business marketing at ICC where he is a member of the Indian Delegation and student worker. His honors include president of the Beta Tau Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and vice president of the Tupelo Campus Student Government Association. Adair is also a youth group member and leader for The Loft youth group at Anchor Holds in Blue Springs. His parents are Mary Adair and Mike and Daphne Adair. Bunch, Buskirk elected Mr. and Miss ICC for 2018-19 Russell Bunch of Saltillo and Laura Buskirk of Amory have been elected Mr. and Miss Itawamba Community College for 2018-19. Bunch is majoring in pre-medicine at ICC, where he is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and third baseman for the Indians baseball team. His honors include Phi Theta Kappa and president’s and dean’s lists. Bunch was also selected to the Tupelo 49ers Senior Legion 19u Baseball Team, which earned a state championship. He is a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church (Vacation Bible School Fitness volunteer, Bible Drill Superior winner for three years and student group). His community service activities are volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Crossroads Ranch, Celebration Village and a reader for ICC’s Earl Childhood Center. He is the son of Will and Jan Reid Bunch. ICC reorganizes recruiting; adds staff With a renewed emphasis on enrollment services and in an effort to better serve both prospective and current students, Itawamba Community College has reorganized recruiting. Taylor Kelley of Pontotoc and Jordan Smith of Saltillo have been employed to focus exclusively on traditional student recruiting, which involves frequent visits to all high schools in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties, according to Dr. Melissa Haab, dean of enrollment services. “Taylor and Jordan will be available to assist area high school students in transitioning to Itawamba Community College,” Haab said. “In the past, ICC’s recruiters also served as academic advisers, and it was difficult to focus on both. With the reorganization, Taylor and Jordan, along with veteran recruiter Evie Storey of Ripley, become the face of ICC to incoming freshmen.” A 2015 graduate of North Pontotoc High School, Kelley earned the associate’s degree from ICC and the bachelor’s degree in integrated marketing communications from the University of Mississippi. Her involvement has included Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Indian Delegation and Student Government. She ... ICC selects 2020 Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Itawamba Community College has selected its Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees for 2020. The honorees include Jim Mounce of Tupelo, Alumnus of the Year, and Kenneth “Kebo” Davis of Okolona and Tyson Lee of Germantown, Tenn., Athletic Hall of Fame. A native of Ecru, Mounce is a 1964 graduate of Itawamba Junior College. During his two years, he was a member of the football team, the baseball team, sophomore class president and class favorite, cutest. His educational background also includes the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi; juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law and the master’s degree from Bellevue University. From 1969-85, Mounce practiced law in Tupelo, and from 1985-2000, he chief operating officer for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society and president, CEO and chairman of the board for Woodmen Life from 2000 until he retired in 2009.
