General 0 Morgan Cutturini of Oxford and Hunter Holley of Amory have been selected to represent Itawamba Community College at the 31st Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence, Feb. 20, in Jackson. The appreciation day was established by Mississippi Legislative Resolution to annually honor the academically talented students and faculty members of the state’s higher education institutions who have made outstanding contributions in promoting academic excellence. Cutturini graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. For more than 18 years, she has worked at ICC, where she serves as adviser to the Film Club. She has created new classes such as world literature I and II, film as literature and film production. In addition, she was selected as Humanities Teacher of the Year in 2000, Lamplighter instructor in 2001 and William Winter Scholar in 2011. She is married to Al Cutturini and has a son, Logan, 20. A graduate of Amory High School, Holley is majoring in biological sciences at ICC, where he is the president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Fulton Campus. He is also Mississippi/Louisiana PTK Regional Reporter and a member of the Indian Delegation and Science Club. Last year he served as the Monroe County representative for the Student Government Association. Among his honors are the president’s list and recipient of numerous scholarships including one of 10 in the nation to receive the prestigious Pearson Scholarship. He has also been selected as ICC’s first Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship semifinalist. Holley attends the First United Methodist Church in Amory. He volunteers at Legacy Hospice in Amory, and his community service has included Angel Tree, daycare volunteer and the HIA project. He is the son of Melesa Rakestraw and Billy Holley. Mississippi Speaker of the House of Representatives Jason White challenges ICC graduates in one of three commencement ceremonies Mississippi Speaker of the House of Representatives Jason White challenged Itawamba Community College graduates today (Friday) at the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus to live by the words he shared with his colleagues as they began the new term in January. “To whom much is given, much is expected,” White said. “I would tell you graduates the same message applies as you enter this new chapter of your lives. Hurdles and challenges certainly await you; don’t get bogged down by the small things, focus on the big picture and make an impact. Morris selected as 2018 William Winter Scholar James Keith Morris of Tupelo, English instructor, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2018. He will be among statewide recipients honored at the 29th Annual Conference, Feb. 22-24, in Natchez. Morris, who previously served as part-time instructor for ICC, joined the full-time faculty in August, 2008. He earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. His activities include fundraiser for St. Jude, participant in the St. Jude Marathon Weekend, poetry and song writer, co-creator of ICC’s world literature I and drama production I-IV, creator of ICC’s writing for publication, sponsor for the writing portion of the annual Calliope poetry and art journal and co-host of the film class’s annual Zombie Run. He is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Parker, 10, and Connor, 8. Spring 2018 Open Registration Open registration at Itawamba Community College has been scheduled for the 2018 spring semester. Dates and times include Jan. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; Jan. 4 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Fulton Campus and from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; January 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, and Jan. 6 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Locations are the Administration Building at the Fulton Campus and the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus. It is possible to register for spring semester classes through Jan. 12 for traditional full-term evening classes, traditional eight-week accelerated term; Jan. 17 for the eight-week eLearning term; Jan. 19 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. However, class selection could possibly be limited. Traditional day classes begin Jan. 8, and eLearning classes, Jan. 16.
