General 0 Nathan Ward of Mooreville and Makaela Dickerson of Smithville have been selected to represent Itawamba Community College at the 32nd Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence, Feb. 26, in Jackson. HEADWAE is a program established by the Mississippi Legislature to honor outstanding faculty members and students from each institution of the Mississippi Association of Colleges. The goal of the program is to recognize and thank these remarkable individuals for their commitment to the future of Mississippi. Ward began teaching in the ICC English Department as an adjunct instructor in 2003 and became a full-time instructor in 2007. Previously, he taught at both Tupelo and New Albany high schools. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. At ICC, he is a sponsor for the College’s chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta, the Two-Year College English Honor Society; coordinator for ICC’s Scholar’s Bowl and a member of various committees. His honors include William Winter Faculty Scholar, Lamplighter award and ICC’s Leadership Development Institute. He and his wife, Kelly, have three sons, Ely, Braydy and Luke. Dickerson is a sophomore public relations major at ICC, where she is a member of the Indian Delegation, Communication Chiefs, the Honors Program; president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Fulton Campus; Mississippi/Louisiana regional reporter for PTK and a student worker. Her honors include All-Mississippi Academic Team and Coca-Cola Leader of Promise for 2018. Dickerson is a member of the Amory Church of Christ. She occasionally serves as a volunteer at Nettleton Elementary School. She is the daughter of Tim and Jennifer Dickerson. Cutturini graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. For more than 18 years, she has worked at ICC, where she serves as adviser to the Film Club. She has created new classes such as world literature I and II, film as literature and film production. In addition, she was selected as Humanities Teacher of the Year in 2000, Lamplighter instructor in 2001 and William Winter Scholar in 2011. She is married to Al Cutturini and has a son, Logan, 20. Four PTK members selected as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars Four Itawamba Community College students are among 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. They include Kelsey Wade of Caledonia; Jacie Rinehart of Saltillo; Makaela Dickerson of Smithville; and Julie Lyles of Tupelo. At ICC, Wade is a member of the Baptist Student Union. She attends New Salem Baptist Church. After ICC, Wade plans to transfer to Mississippi State University where she will pursue the master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and become a registered dietician. Rinehart is studying occupational therapy at ICC, where she serves as Phi Theta Kappa officer of projects. She is also a member of the choir and Science Club. Rinehart plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to continue work toward her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and subsequently earn her doctorate of occupational therapy degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dickerson named Coca-Cola Silver Scholar Itawamba Community College sophomore Makaela Dickerson of Smithville has been named a 2019 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. Dickerson is a member of the Indian Delegation, Sigma Kappa Delta, Honors Program, president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and MS/LA Regional Reporter, orientation leader, student worker and participant in intramural sports at ICC. Her honors include HEADWAE recipient, All-Mississippi Academic Team and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise. Dickerson’s other activities are film internship and member of Amory Church of Christ. ICC's Jessi Stevenson selected as 2025 William Winter Scholar Jessi Stevenson of Fulton, fine arts instructor, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2025. She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 36th Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, March 27-29. Stevenson currently teaches public speaking and theatre at ICC, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. Known for her creative approach to teaching in the communication classroom, Stevenson strives to incorporate weekly hands-on learning opportunities, such as pop-up speech assignments, board game days designed to enhance interpersonal engagement and yoga days focused on stress-relief and delivery techniques, all aimed at improving students’ overall podium performance. Stevenson has earned numerous recognitions, including the Lamplighter Award, NISOD Excellence Award, two-time Meritorious Achievement Award recipient, Humanities Teacher Award, Mississippi Communication Association Top Presenter Award, QEP Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award and multiple recognitions as an athletics faculty awardee for volleyball and basketball. ICC's Ward selected Humanities Teacher Award nominee Nathan Ward of Mooreville has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2021. He will present “Crossing the Bar: Attaining Student Success,” at 6 p.m., Jan. 26, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. He will be honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Public Awards ceremony, Mar. 26, in Jackson. “This is an unexpected, but completely appreciated honor,” Ward said. “ICC demands success on every level, and it is hard for me to imagine working anywhere else.” A 1998 graduate of ICC, Ward earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. ICC's Hartfield, Ward selected to participate in MCCLA Jake Hartfield of Fulton, director of recruitment and orientation, and Nathan Ward of Mooreville, English instructor and supplemental instruction technician, at Itawamba Community College have been selected as participants for the 2021-22 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy. A native of Raymond, Hartfield has been director of student activities and orientation leaders sponsor since 2018. He will transition to his recruitment and orientation position July 1. His educational background includes the associate’s degree from Hinds Community College and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, where he is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in community college leadership. He currently teaches an orientation leader course at ICC. At ICC, Hartfield serves on several committees, including COVID-19 Reopening Task Force, Student Honors Selection Committee (Chair), Community Relations and Standards Committee, Commencement Committee, Strategic Planning Council, Strategic Enrollment Management Team, Student Activities Committee (chair), Academic Calendar and Enrollment Committee and College Council.
