ICC kicks off '25 football season with free Red Zone Tailgate

Itawamba Community College will kick off the 2025 Indians football season, Aug. 28, with a free Red Zone Tailgate in the Grove at Butch Lambert Stadium in Fulton. The public is invited.             The event features free food, activities and entertainment for all ages.             The Indian Spirit Walk will start the festivities at 4 p.m., and fans will have an opportunity to cheer for the Indians as they make their way to the stadium. The ultimate tailgate showdown is the Kickoff Cookoff, and local teams will fire up their grills and bring the flavor. Those who attend will have an opportunity to taste, cheer and vote for their favorite dishes. A panel of four judges will select the Best Tailgate Dish, Most Creative Tailgate Dish and Fan Favorite.             ICC will take on Hinds Community College with the kickoff at 7 p.m. Additionally, the 2024-25 Lady Indians basketball team will be recognized at halftime for their spectacular season, which culminated in the Region 23 Women’s Championship and a trip to the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in Casper, Wyoming.             More information about ...

ICC schedules September pathways classes

Itawamba Community College has scheduled several pathways classes to begin in September at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 8-Nov. 12, 5-9 p.m.; Electrician Assistant, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9-Nov. 13, 6-9 p.m.; and Small Engine Repair, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 30, 6-9 p.m.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills and to prepare them to do basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. The class can also be useful to the small farmer or business owner who has many do-it-yourself projects. Electrician Assistant provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential writing. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Small Engine Repair Technician enables students to prepare for a career as they develop small engine repair skills, and upon completion, they will be equipped for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair ...

ICC to offer Preparing for the ACT Sept. 20, 27 at Belden Center

          Itawamba Community College’s Continuing Education Department will offer Preparing for the ACT, Sept. 20 (English/Reading) and Sept. 27 (Math/Science) from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required. ICC's Coleman receives Bower-Delta State University Transfer Nursing Scholarship

Jasmier Coleman of Pontotoc, a 2025 Itawamba Community College graduate, has received the Bower-Delta State University Transfer Nursing Scholarship of $4,000 from the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation. Students studying to become nurses in Mississippi and planning to transfer to Delta State University are eligible to receive the scholarship. This initiative focuses on strengthening Mississippi’s healthcare workforce to ensure healthier communities for generations to come. “The Phi Theta Kappa Foundation is a dynamic partner in our efforts to improve the health of Mississippians,” said Rebecca Cockrell, program director at the Bower Foundation. “Their strategic initiatives help identify students who demonstrate characteristics necessary to succeed in Delta State University’s nursing program. This collaboration maximizes the Bower Foundation’s funding to impact the education and employment of nurses in Mississippi.” Coleman is among three students who have been named Bower Scholars. ICC kicks off Senior College, Aug. 20

Itawamba Community College’s fall 2025 session of Senior College will kick off Aug. 20 with a presentation by longtime Itawamba Community College coach and athletic director Carrie Ball-Williamson of Pontotoc, who will share her journey. Highlights include her experiences, athletic leadership and the impact of sports on student success.                 “ICC’s Senior College is designed for those who are retired and looking for something fun to do,” said Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education. “The sessions offer wonderful opportunities for community members to learn more about topics specific to our area, stay active in the community and engage with other participants who share the same enthusiasm and zest for life and learning as they do.”                 Additional dates include Sept. 24, road trip to the Tammy Wynette Legacy Center in Tremont, where participants will view an exhibit that traces the life of the “First Lady of Country Music,” have a southern-style lunch and enjoy entertainment from local musicians; Oct. 22, “Craft and Giggles,” a lighthearted session focused on hands-on crafting; Nov. 12, ICC’s Director of Mental Health Services Angelia Herring ...

ICC's Diagnostic Medical Sonography class of 2025 receives diplomas during special ceremony

The members of Itawamba Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography class of 2025 received their diplomas during a special ceremony, July 30 at the Academic and Student Center at the Tupelo Campus.                 They include Emily Lopez of Belden; Stephanie Watts of Brandon; Karly Linley of Houlka; Hadley Jackson of Kossuth; Madison Gregg of Maben; Sarah Perkins of Oxford; Zoe Nastasi of Picayune and Annslee Rhea of Pontotoc.                 Itawamba Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a one-year (three-semester) program. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and are to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography examinations, including Principles and Instrumentation to become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Abdominal and Obstetrics/Gynecology. Sonographers work in hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices, women’s health centers and pediatric care centers.

ICC Surgical Technology graduates receive degrees

            Several area residents from Itawamba Community College’s Surgical Technology program received their degrees, July 11, at the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus.             They include Katie May of Booneville; Claire Carter of Bruce; Jada Glasgow of Caledonia; Jasmyn Sheffield, Christopher Underwood, both of Fulton; Jessica Dancy, Katelyn Haycraft, both of Guntown; Megan Haire of Houlka; Allyson Smith of Houston; Lakyn Donaldson of Nettleton; Destinee Bafford of Prairie; Keegan Smith of Ripley; Charles Landon Russo of Saltillo; and Jessica Partlow of Tupelo.             Itawamba Community College’s Surgical Technology program courses equal one year (three semesters). The goal is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains to enter the profession. Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings.  

ICC fall continuing education schedule now available

Itawamba Community College has announced its schedule of continuing education classes for the 2025 fall semester.             The schedule, according to ICC Continuing Education director Josh Gammill, includes opportunities in several categories: hobbies and personal enjoyment, personal enrichment, professional continuing education, career pathways and senior college.              Gammill said that the class schedule includes both new opportunities as well as those that have been offered before. “We have integrated new classes such as introduction to artificial intelligence, introduction to content creation and Spanish for medical professionals that join old favorites in the areas of art, cake decorating, photography, ACT prep, sign language and personal finance. Professional continuing education is available for EMS refreshers and engineers and surveyors as well as an extensive schedule of career pathways, or short-term courses, to prepare students for the next step. Itawamba Community College has scheduled several career pathways classes to begin in August at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Food Management Certification, Mondays through Fridays, Aug. 8-Sept. 12, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Google IT Support  Certification, Aug. 11-Dec. 4 (online); Certified Nursing Assistant, Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 11-Oct. 22, 5-9 p.m.; Medical Assistant, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 11-Dec. 4, 6-9 p.m.; Business Office Specialist, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 12-Dec.4, 5-9 p.m.; Pharmacy Technician, Tuesdays, Aug. 12-Dec. 2, 6-9 p.m.; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 13-Dec. 4, 5-10 p.m.; and Phlebotomy Technician,  Thursdays, Aug. 14, 6-9 p.m.                 Highlights of Food Management Certification include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 The Google IT Support Certification program is designed to prepare learners for entry-level positions in IT support. It is fully online and is offered by ICC in collaboration with Google. Registration continues at ICC for 2025 fall semester

Registration is continuing for the 2025 fall semester at Itawamba Community College. Entering freshmen, transfer, returning or students who are being readmitted can register at the Advising Centers on either the Fulton or Tupelo campuses from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Aug. 8 and Monday through Friday, August 11-15. Locations are the David C. Cole Student Services building on the Fulton Campus and the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus.             Additional registration deadlines include August eight-week traditional and eLearning terms, Aug. 26, and full-term eLearning classes, Aug. 29.             Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships for those who qualify.             Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. There are also both face-to-face and online options.
