ICC schedules spring 2025 Senior College sessions

Itawamba Community College’s spring 2025 session of Senior College will kick off Jan. 15 with a presentation by Three Rivers Planning and Development District that will focus on the services they provide for individuals ages 55 and older.             According to Kelleigh Riddle, Area Agency on Aging director, the many services include Title V employment (training and locating part-time employment for eligible participants) as well as the Medicaid Waiver Division, which is a statewide program designed to offer assistance to qualified Medicaid beneficiaries. It allows qualified individuals to remain in a home- or community-based setting as an alternative to nursing facility care or other institutional care.              TRPDD services also include information and referral, Ombudsman, Homemaker and Respite and opportunities for the elderly and handicapped residents of Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties in northeast Mississippi.             “ICC’s Senior College is designed for those who are retired and looking for something fun to do,” said Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education. “The sessions offer wonderful opportunities for community members to learn more about topics specific to our ...

ICC schedules adult education enrollment/classes for January 2025

Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students in day and afternoon classes at the Belden Center, Jan. 13.                 Individuals 18 years of age and older will begin at 9 a.m., and 16-/17-year-old students, 1 p.m.                 Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.                 Day and night classes are also offered throughout the Itawamba Community College District. ICC C.O.R.E. program to host C.O.R.E. games Dec. 18-20

Itawamba Community College’s Candidates on Rapid Entry (CORE) cadets will host the C.O.R.E. games at the Fulton Campus, December 18-20, in the eLearning Building, which is on the west side of the David C. Cole Student Services Building parking lot on West Main Street. Included will be drills which could involve “gunfire” and testing other components of the responsibilities of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Also, scenarios will be set up in ICC parking lots, and external law enforcement vehicles will be on campus. The event, which is closed to the public, is only a demonstration.

ICC schedules pathways classes to begin in January at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College has scheduled several pathways classes to begin in January 2025 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). They include Food Management Certification, Jan. 13-Feb. 7, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Certified Nursing Assistant, Jan. 13-Mar. 26, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-9 p.m.; Medical Administrative Assistant, Jan 13-Apr. 9, Mondays, 5-9 p.m. plus additional online assignments; Medical Assistant, Jan. 13-May 8, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 6-9 p.m.; Business Office Specialist, Jan. 14-May 8, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-9 p.m.; and EMT Basic, Jan. 14-May 8, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-10 p.m.      Food Management Certification includes the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Students will experience training opportunities including ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning preparation, assist/participate in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Certified Nursing Assistant prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Work of area students to be featured in ICC's Calliope

The work of several area students will be featured in The Calliope during the 2025 spring semester at Itawamba Community College.                 The poets and their work include Holly Edge of Mantachie, “Lingering Tune;” Sharlee Shumpert of Mooreville, “I Am Ambitious;” Abigael Cowsert of Myrtle, “Crickets Never Sleep;” Tytianna Brooks of Nettleton, “Solaced Thinking;” Va’Shawna Fleming of New Albany, “To Love Like Jesus; Sara Davis of Smithville, “Preacher Man;” Michaela Georges, “The World Is Ablaze;” Vidhi Patel, “The Perfect Gift;” James Ross, “Pieces of You;” and Teneshia Shells, “Wisdom,” all of Tupelo.                 The Calliope is ICC’s literary magazine. Editors are ICC art instructor Shawn Whittington of Saltillo, art, and English instructor Keith Morris of Tupelo, poetry.

ICC schedules 2025 spring semester registration

Itawamba Community College has scheduled open registration for the 2025 spring semester.             Options include January 6-10 during regular business hours (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Locations are the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus and the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus.             Traditional full-term day and night and first eight-week classes begin Jan. 13; and eLearning full-term and first eight-week classes, Jan. 21.             Financial aid is available, as well as adult learner scholarships.             Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. Instructional options include both face-to-face and online. ICC to celebrate Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3

                Itawamba Community College will celebrate Giving Tuesday, December 3.                 “The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students,” said Michael Upton, director of Advancement.                 Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for individuals, communities and organizations to unite to support the causes they care about, Upton explained. “It’s a chance to make a difference, no matter how big or small, and to join a worldwide movement of generosity. At ICC we are deeply committed to provide quality education and support to our students. Several area residents will participate in a commencement ceremony for the Practical Nursing program at Itawamba Community College at noon, Dec. 12, at the W.O. ICC schedules orientation sessions for spring 2025

 Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2025 spring semester.                 High school students who graduate in December are highly encouraged to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Dec. 4 at the Academic and Student Center at the Tupelo Campus and Dec. 5 at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus at 1 p.m. each day. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend in the spring. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.                 “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “The sessions will also provide an opportunity for adult learners to connect with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”                 During the spring semester, students may choose from several instructional delivery methods, including online, face-to-face and hybrid.                 ...

ICC's Precision Machining Technology students receive new toolboxes, courtesy of a generous Haas Foundation grant

            Students in Itawamba Community College’s Precision Machining Technology program have a new toolbox, courtesy of a generous grant by the Gene Haas Foundation.             Among the items in the five-drawer steel tool roller cabinet are a micrometer set; caliper; steel rule; tape measure; adjustable wrench; hex key, drill bit and L-handle sets; hammer; sharpening stone and flat file.             “We would like to thank the Gene Haas Foundation for their generous contribution and support of our program and for the difference the toolboxes will make not only in the success of our students but also when they graduate and enter the workforce,” said instructor Jerry Pettigrew.
