Upskill Mid-South offers possible financial assistance for four ICC short-term traning programs

Students who enroll in four short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis.               The programs include Electrician Assistant, Welding and Cutting, Commercial Truck Driving and Google IT Support, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education and Career Services.               “Upskill Mid-South introduced the initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. The program is designed to address critical workforce needs.               Among the Mississippi counties include Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union.               “The Itawamba Community College, the University of Memphis and UpSkill Mid-South Partnership offers accelerated job training and education programs to people in the community as well as help finding a job,” said Diane Pabich, director, University of Memphis, Upskill Mid-South program. “Our programs help individuals develop and refine skills that are highly valued in today’s workplace. ICC schedules September pathways classes

Itawamba Community College has scheduled several pathways classes to begin in September at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 8-Nov. 12, 5-9 p.m.; Electrician Assistant, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9-Nov. 13, 6-9 p.m.; and Small Engine Repair, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 30, 6-9 p.m.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills and to prepare them to do basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. The class can also be useful to the small farmer or business owner who has many do-it-yourself projects. Electrician Assistant provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential writing. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Small Engine Repair Technician enables students to prepare for a career as they develop small engine repair skills, and upon completion, they will be equipped for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair ...

ICC to offer Preparing for the ACT Sept. 20, 27 at Belden Center

          Itawamba Community College’s Continuing Education Department will offer Preparing for the ACT, Sept. 20 (English/Reading) and Sept. 27 (Math/Science) from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required. ICC fall continuing education schedule now available

Itawamba Community College has announced its schedule of continuing education classes for the 2025 fall semester.             The schedule, according to ICC Continuing Education director Josh Gammill, includes opportunities in several categories: hobbies and personal enjoyment, personal enrichment, professional continuing education, career pathways and senior college.              Gammill said that the class schedule includes both new opportunities as well as those that have been offered before. “We have integrated new classes such as introduction to artificial intelligence, introduction to content creation and Spanish for medical professionals that join old favorites in the areas of art, cake decorating, photography, ACT prep, sign language and personal finance. Professional continuing education is available for EMS refreshers and engineers and surveyors as well as an extensive schedule of career pathways, or short-term courses, to prepare students for the next step. Itawamba Community College has scheduled several career pathways classes to begin in August at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Food Management Certification, Mondays through Fridays, Aug. 8-Sept. 12, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Google IT Support  Certification, Aug. 11-Dec. 4 (online); Certified Nursing Assistant, Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 11-Oct. 22, 5-9 p.m.; Medical Assistant, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 11-Dec. 4, 6-9 p.m.; Business Office Specialist, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 12-Dec.4, 5-9 p.m.; Pharmacy Technician, Tuesdays, Aug. 12-Dec. 2, 6-9 p.m.; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 13-Dec. 4, 5-10 p.m.; and Phlebotomy Technician,  Thursdays, Aug. 14, 6-9 p.m.                 Highlights of Food Management Certification include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 The Google IT Support Certification program is designed to prepare learners for entry-level positions in IT support. Registration continues at ICC for 2025 fall semester

Registration is continuing for the 2025 fall semester at Itawamba Community College. Entering freshmen, transfer, returning or students who are being readmitted can register at the Advising Centers on either the Fulton or Tupelo campuses from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Aug. 8 and Monday through Friday, August 11-15. Locations are the David C. Cole Student Services building on the Fulton Campus and the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus.             Additional registration deadlines include August eight-week traditional and eLearning terms, Aug. 26, and full-term eLearning classes, Aug. 29.             Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships for those who qualify.             Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. There are also both face-to-face and online options. Registration underway for ServSafe classes at ICC-Belden

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for three ServSafe® classes scheduled for July 26, September 20 and November 8. Classes meet from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.             The State Health Department requires this certification for at least one person in each establishment in which a food permit is required, and it must be renewed every five years.             The fee is $150, which includes book and testing.             For more information or to register, call (662) 407-1500 or email continuingeducation@iccms.edu.

ICC Food Management Certification class set to begin July 14 at Belden Center

 Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will begin July 14 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.                 The class will meet weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. through July 31.                 Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in the execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Tuition assistance could be available for those who qualify.                 For more information or to register, call (662) 407-1505 or email pathways@iccms.edu.

ICC to enroll new adult education students with sessions July 14, 16

    Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students in morning/afternoon and evening classes at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.), July 14.                 Registration for morning classes, which are taught Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-noon, and afternoon classes (Monday through Thursday, 1-4 p.m.) will be at 9 a.m. for individuals 18 years of age and older.                 Evening classes are taught Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m., and those 18 years of age and older can register July 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Individuals who participate in the come-and-go session should arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. Those who are 16-17 years old cannot enroll in evening classes at the Belden Center unless they bring documentation from an employer that includes a schedule that conflicts with day classes, according to Audra Perry, director of Adult Education at ICC.                 Additional classes for those 16-17 years of age are taught in Amory (Mondays and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.), Belden (Mondays through Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.), Fulton (Mondays and Tuesdays, 3:30-7:30 p.m.) and Pontotoc (Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon ...

Registration continues for ICC summer orientation sessions

Registration is continuing for several orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll at Itawamba Community College for the 2025 fall semester.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for June 10, June 11, July 16, all at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Campus; June 10, June 11 and July 16, all at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton Campus; and June 12 and July 15, both at 1 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. The sessions will also enable adult learners to meet with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”             ...
