ICC launches net price calculator to provide easily-understood cost and value

Itawamba Community College has launched a new and improved net price calculator to ensure that all students understand the cost to attend and especially that it is an affordable option, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid.             The College Cost Transparency Initiative – a task force composed of the leaders of 10 higher education associations representing college presidents, financial aid offices and admissions and school counselors – previously announced that more than 360 institutions of higher education have voluntarily committed to follow a set of principles and standards that ensure transparency, clarity and understanding around communicating student financial aid offers, Bland said. ICC/The W sign MOU for bachelor's degree program in elementary/special education

ICC to host Code Blue and Red event, Oct. 25

Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 8:30 a.m.-noon, Oct. 25, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Students from area schools will be on campus in two shifts (8:15 and 10:15 a.m.) to participate in three simulated scenarios that highlight each of ICC’s 11 Health Science programs, said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said. “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Sciences, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Public Health, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology. Upcoming ICC Paralegal Technology celebration coincides with national commemoration

Itawamba Community College’s Paralegal Technology program has scheduled a special celebration, Oct. 23 to coincide with the commemoration of a national event.             Its 2024 National Paralegal Day Celebration from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Academic and Student Center lobby on the Tupelo Campus will enable participants to mix and mingle with area industry members, especially those in the profession and attorneys, as well as to learn more about ICC’s Paralegal Technology program and the paralegal profession, according to director Haley Carpenter.             She has a variety of student stories to share regarding the importance of ICC’s Paralegal Technology program. “One student said that she and her mother experienced a hard time after her father died intestate (without a will). They worked with the probate court to settle his estate, and the process was confusing. Registration continues for eight-week terms

            Registration for the second term of eight-week traditional and eLearning classes is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The deadline to register is Oct. 17 for the traditional term and Oct. 22 for the eLearning (online) session. ICC collaboration provides opportunity for financial assistance for five short-term training programs

Students who enroll in five short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis.             The programs include Commercial Truck Driving, Electrician Assistant, Google IT, Residential Carpentry Assistant and Welding, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education.             “Upskill Mid-South has introduced the new initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. The program is designed to address critical workforce needs.             Among the Mississippi counties include Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union.             “The Itawamba Community College, the University of Memphis and UpSkill Mid-South Partnership offers accelerated job training and education programs to people in the community as well as help finding a job,” said Diane Pabich, director, University of Memphis, Upskill Mid-South program. “Our programs help individuals develop and refine skills that are highly valued in today’s workplace. ICC joins in National Truck Driver Appreciation Week; now recruiting students for upcoming classes

            Itawamba Community College is joining with the American Trucking Association in celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 15-21.             The weeklong celebration honors the millions of professional truck drivers who deliver America’s freight safely and securely every day.             It is especially meaningful to Itawamba Community College, which is also celebrating its Commercial Truck Driving program that is now recruiting students for classes that will begin soon at its Tupelo Campus.             ICC’s CTD program prepares individuals to drive Class A semitrucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough understanding of logbooks, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.             Options include four weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., or 16-weeks.             Enrollment requirements include U.S. citizen or Puerto Rico valid driver’s license; copy of good ...

ICC Continuing Education classes set to begin soon

            Registration is underway for several continuing education classes that will begin soon at Itawamba Community College. They include Introduction to Single Board Microcomputers and Microcontrollers, Digital Photography for Beginners, Microsoft Excel for Beginners, Personal Finance and Art – A Basic Approach to Watercolor and Certified Nursing Assistant.             Introduction to Single Board Microcomputers and Microcontrollers will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. from Sept. 10-19. It provides students with basic knowledge and basic concepts of single board computers and controllers. The class is intended for individuals possessing a basic understanding of computers and electricity, targeting both STEM educators and hobbyists. Topics covered include Single Board Computers, Introduction to the Raspberry Pi SBC, Introduction to the Arduino SBC and Basic Setup and Programming with Arduino IDE software. Food Management Certification class set to begin Sept. 9 at ICC-Belden

ICC schedules fall 2024 Preparing for the ACT sessions

The Itawamba Community College Continuing Education Department has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT during the 2024 fall semester. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 Math and science sessions include Sept. 7, Oct. 19 and Dec. 7.  English and reading are offered Oct. 12 and Nov. 9.                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required.
