ICC pathway programs scheduled for August at Belden Center

Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for several Pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in August at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). They include Business Office Specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT Basic, Small Engine Repair, Introduction to Welding and Cutting and Residential Wiring.             Business Office Specialist will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. from Aug. 10-Dec. 7. The program is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students will have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks® certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Excel and Word. In addition, participants will receive instruction and training in performance of technical office tasks, basic math, fundamentals of bookkeeping and basic human resource management.             Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. from Aug. 9-Oct. 27. ICC offers intersession classes beginning Aug. 2

Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for students to enroll in four traditional classes during an intersession, which begins Aug. 2 and ends with final examinations on Aug. 13, prior to the beginning of the 2021 fall semester.             The schedule includes English Composition I, American Literature I, College Life and Public Speaking I. All classes meet on a Monday through Friday schedule at the Fulton Campus.             “Traditionally, ICC has offered classes during an intersession between the conclusion of the spring semester and the beginning of the summer semester,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, vice president of enrollment services. “These classes will enable students to enroll and complete traditional academic classes that are requirements for most associate degree programs in a compacted format. They are face-to-face classes that will enable interaction between students and faculty in a classroom setting where the Mississippi State Department of Health and Center for Disease Control COVID guidelines are followed. ”             To register, email eadviser@iccms.edu, and for more information, admissions@iccms.edu.

ICC sets deadline for Adult Learner Scholarship application

           Aug. 27 is the deadline for applying for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship for those enrolling for the 2021 fall semester at Itawamba Community College.             To apply for the scholarship, students must be 21 years of age or older and enrolling in classes to pursue a degree. Full-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of 15 hours, will receive $2,000 ($500 per semester), and part-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of six hours, will receive $1,000 ($250 per semester).             The Adult Learner scholarship must be used in consecutive semesters. Eligibility must begin the first semester of attendance and cannot be used more than once. ICC to offer Enhanced Forklift Operator Training at Belden

Itawamba Community College will offer Enhanced Forklift Operator Training, Aug. 16, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).           Topics include the requirements of the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178, safe powered industrial truck operation and how forklifts work, identification of operating hazards as well as the general principles of safe operation and how to properly inspect and maintain a forklift.           According to ICC Pathway Coordinator Josh Gammill, “This eight-hour class will provide students the opportunity to receive hands-on training on three different classifications of forklifts: Standup Rider (Class 1), Order Selector (Class 2) and LP Gas Powered Sit-Down Forklift (Class 4).”           Cost of the course is $85.           For more information or to preregister call (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.

ICC's Nursing students have opportunity to benefit from Women's Foundation of Mississippi grant

           Students in Itawamba Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs will have an opportunity to benefit from a significant grant from the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi.             The $40,000 Access to Opportunity – Training and Graduating a Healthcare Workforce for Mississippi grant will be divided between the ADN and PN programs based on relative program enrollments, said Rilla Jones, dean of Health Science Instruction. This year, 31 ADN and 19 PN students will receive funds.             Students in their final year/semester of their nursing program will be informed of this grant during the beginning of the fall semester, Jones said. Those who would like to be considered for the grant will complete an application and sign a consent form for FAFSA data to be accessed. ICC schedules Food Service Pathway class to begin July 19

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning July 19.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Aug. 13.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. ICC's Hartfield, Ward selected to participate in MCCLA

            Jake Hartfield of Fulton, director of recruitment and orientation, and Nathan Ward of Mooreville, English instructor and supplemental instruction technician, at Itawamba Community College have been selected as participants for the 2021-22 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy.             A native of Raymond, Hartfield has been director of student activities and orientation leaders sponsor since 2018. He will transition to his recruitment and orientation position July 1. His educational background includes the associate’s degree from Hinds Community College and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, where he is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in community college leadership.  He currently teaches an orientation leader course at ICC. At ICC, Hartfield serves on several committees, including COVID-19 Reopening Task Force, Student Honors Selection Committee (Chair),  Community Relations and Standards Committee, Commencement Committee, Strategic Planning Council, Strategic Enrollment Management Team, Student Activities Committee (chair), Academic Calendar and Enrollment Committee and College Council. ESL classes continue at ICC Belden

            English as a Second Language classes continue this summer at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Classes meet Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.             In addition to the onsite option, students can participate in the classes from home, while maintaining face-to-face contact through ZOOM.             There is no cost for the classes.             For more information about ESL, email ejsullivan@iccms.edu, or for general information about classes or programs, call Angeelas Shannon at (662) 407-1517.

ICC accepts Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame nominations through Aug. 1

            Nominations are being accepted for the 2021 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees at Itawamba Community College through Aug. 1.             Those selected will be honored during homecoming activities this fall at the Fulton Campus.             Criteria for selection for Alumnus of the Year include successful completion of at least one semester as a full-time student at ICC five years prior to the current year as well as merit and achievement which have brought fame and honor to either his/her community or ICC.             ICC’s Athletic Hall of Fame honors former athletes, coaches or individuals who have excelled or those who have made major contributions to intercollegiate athletics while attending or employed by ICC. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees must have been out of school at least 10 years. Extended hospital stay leads to appreciation for nurses and Dzikielewski scholarship

When Joe Dzikielewski was a patient in the hospital for seven weeks in 2019, he was impressed with the care provided by his nurses, most of whom were Itawamba Community College graduates.             “He enjoyed asking them where they went to school and learning more about them,” his wife, Wanda, said.             That appreciation has led to her establishing the Dr. Joseph F. Dzikielewski Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Itawamba Community College to benefit full-time sophomores in the Associate Degree Nursing program.             “This is my home and was Joe’s home for 30 years plus,” said the ICC alumnus. “I think ICC is a great place to start an education and a career. It gives our people not only a significant economic opportunity as well as an education that transfers out to the next stage in life.
