General 0 Itawamba Community College will host a 75th anniversary celebration and community tailgate, Sept. 28, prior to the Indians’ football game with Northwest Mississippi Community College. The schedule includes 4 p.m., Indian Spirit Walk (cheer the football team on their way to Lambert Stadium); 5 p.m., community tailgate with food trucks and free Kids’ Zone activities; 6:30 p.m., pregame show with the ICC All-American Marching Band; and 7 p.m., kickoff at Eaton Field. According to event organizer Nina Strother, director of Marketing and Community Engagement, a designated area will be set up for tailgating, however, those who wish to participate must be set up before 3:30 p.m. One table and two chairs are available per 10 x 10 tent. Among the schools, Itawamba Community College was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000 to transform the futures of students in the community. “It is a tremendous honor for Itawamba Community College to be selected as one of the recipients of the prestigious All Within My Hands grant, which will significantly impact our career education programs, providing funding for students to pursue a pathway and their best start,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “It is another indication of the success of the College and reinforcement of the mission that students and their success are our top priority.” The Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) was launched in 2019 by Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands (AWMH), in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The workforce initiative marks its fifth year with an ambitious expansion into new curricula. ICC schedules community tailgate with a twist Itawamba Community College will host its annual community tailgate on Sept. 15 from 5-6:30 p.m. with a new twist this year. The Community Tailgate Fan Fest at The Grove on the Fulton Campus will have plenty of “fun” activities preceding the home football game vs. Northeast Mississippi Community College. Food trucks and various groups at ICC are scheduled to be on hand with food and activities, and the public is invited to attend. “Live entertainment by DJ Marky Mark of Best Productions will begin at 5 p.m., and Do Right BBQ, Jo’s Café, Funky Cones and Snowie will be available,” said ICC Director of Marketing and Community Engagement Nina Strother. “There will be a kid’s zone with games, face painting, bounce houses, inflatable slides and an obstacle course, and fans are welcome to bring their own tents, lawn chairs and blankets to tailgate.” To continue the celebration of ICC’s 75th anniversary, ICC Alumni Association President Chuck Howell of Pontotoc will display his 1948 Plymouth, the year that the college opened its doors in Fulton. Community Tailgate contest set for Sept. 27 Area residents are invited to participate in a tailgate contest on the lawn of the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus of Itawamba Community College, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 27. Entries, which must have three tailgate leaders, will be judged on creativity, pride, food and atmosphere. Winners of best atmosphere, best food, most spirit and best overall will be announced at 6 p.m. The award for best overall will be presented at Eaton Field during ICC’s football game with Northeast Mississippi Community College. Each tailgate will include one 10 x 10 space for a personal tent and items. ICC signs preferred candidate program agreement with MHP; only community college in the state selected Itawamba Community College signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Preferred Candidate Program with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jan. 26, at the Tupelo Campus. The initiative is a pilot program that will be implemented at ICC, the only community college in the state selected. “Itawamba Community College is more than excited about this partnership with the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “According to research, having successfully completed a college degree substantially improves the knowledge and abilities of officers on a vast range of areas from the criminal justice system to conceptual and managerial skills.” The agreement will allow those who are enrolled to pursue either an A.A. or A.A.S. degree in ICC’s Criminal Justice program, meet with an MHP recruiter and apply for the MHP Preferred Candidate Program to skip weeks of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Academy. In order to graduate from the MHP Preferred Candidate Program, students must complete one or more semesters of the MHP Candidates on Rapid Entry curriculum, earn the associate’s degree from ICC, meet the C.O.R.E. ICC announces 75th Diamond Anniversary Gala Itawamba Community College is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special event planned for Oct. 14, beginning at 6 p.m. at the West Hall of the Cadence Bank Conference Center in Tupelo. “Throughout the past 75 years, our college has grown into a thriving hub of knowledge, growth and opportunity thanks to the dedication of our exceptional faculty, staff and students,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “The impact of our collective efforts extends far beyond our walls, shaping communities and changing lives worldwide. ICC seeking participants for Community Tailgate Itawamba Community College is seeking participants for its 2021 Community Tailgate, Oct. 14, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in front of Butch Lambert Stadium at the Fulton Campus. Businesses, alumni, teams, families, offices, both community and student groups and organizations are invited to participate in the free opportunity, according to Nina Strother, director of marketing and community engagement at ICC. The tailgates and food will be separate competitions, Strother said. Tailgate booths will be judged on atmosphere, creativity and spirit. They have the opportunity to participate in the cook off or as a booth. The cook off will be divided into sweet and savory categories. Tailgate participants may submit one sweet and/or one savory dish to the Chief’s Sweet and Savory Cook Off tent by 5 p.m., when judging will begin. Winners, which will be selected for both categories and an overall grand champion, will be announced at 5:45 p.m. Participants must sign up by Oct. 4.
