Related Articles ICC to host Meet the Indians, Jan. 18 Members of Itawamba Community College’s spring athletic teams will be introduced at a special Meet the Indians event at 6 p.m., Jan. 18, at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. Teams include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, golf, softball and men’s and women’s tennis. In addition, the All-American Marching Band and cheer squad will perform. Knowlton to perform, judge at Indians Got Talent finale Itawamba Community College alumnus Landen Knowlton of Tupelo, winner of the College’s Indian Idol in 2014, will return to his alma mater Apr. 2 to be a guest judge and performer during the finale of Indians Got Talent. The event will be in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus at 7 p.m. Most recently, Knowlton was featured on American Idol. He is a singer-songwriter in a quiet reserved coffee shop sort of way. Instead, his lyrics throw punches, and his melodies conquer the heart. He knows what it is like to sing his Americana tunes to the walls, but his persistence and talent have taken him from coast to coast. Through opening for accomplished performers, including Dylan Schneider, Knowlton discovered what it takes to create well-crafted songs that connect with toddlers, boomers and everyone in between. ICC launches innovative "Schools of" initiative Itawamba Community College is launching an innovative determination of majors method that is designed to enable students to connect better with their selected field of study as well as with their cohorts in the same area. All academic majors at ICC are now being grouped into schools, which are tailored to the institution to which students plan to transfer or career fields in which they wish to work, according to Dr. Michelle Sumerel, vice president of instructional services. In addition, this transition creates strong cohorts of students within the schools to provide peer support and more intensive preparation for college and career success. Sumerel said that ICC is the only community college in the state that uses the Schools of reference; however, others are utilizing a similar approach. ICC’s Schools include arts, business, both career and general education, general studies, health sciences, health-related, humanities, legal studies and STEM, Sumerel said. ICC launches partnership with TimelyMD to connect faculty, staff, students with mental and physical health resources Itawamba Community College has launched a partnership with TimelyMD to connect full-time faculty and currently-enrolled students to the support and resources in both mental and physical health they need to succeed. TimelyCare provides on-demand 24/7 service that offers virtual health and well-being to currently-enrolled students and full-time faculty and staff for free, according to Dr. Brad Boggs, vice president of Student Services, including mental and emotional support, health literacy guidance and crisis management by masters-level behavioral health professionals. “It also provides a dedicated phone line for full-time faculty and staff to reach the TimelyCare team for guidance and support in cases of student distress.” Those covered may choose the visit modality that works best for them - video, phone or video chat. The simple, flexible scheduling enables students to choose their provider, day and time as well as cancel a visit and select the next available time that works best for them. ICC launches net price calculator to provide easily-understood cost and value Itawamba Community College has launched a new and improved net price calculator to ensure that all students understand the cost to attend and especially that it is an affordable option, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid. The College Cost Transparency Initiative – a task force composed of the leaders of 10 higher education associations representing college presidents, financial aid offices and admissions and school counselors – previously announced that more than 360 institutions of higher education have voluntarily committed to follow a set of principles and standards that ensure transparency, clarity and understanding around communicating student financial aid offers, Bland said. ICC Bass Club to sponsor tournament The Itawamba Community College Bass Club will sponsor a youth tournament, Apr. 28, at Fulton in conjunction with the city’s Bluegrass, Blues & BBQ Festival. The tournament is open to any student in the sixth through twelfth grades. Teams will consist of two students, and the boat captain must be 19 years of age or older. The entry fee is $30 per boat. Launch will be at safelight from the Beaver Lake ramp, and check-in at 2:15 p.m. at the boat ramp. Participants are to lock through at their own risk. Weigh-in is at 3 p.m. in downtown Fulton on the square. Cash and prizes totaling $2,000 will be awarded. Entries and the $30 fee should be brought to a pretournament meeting before blastoff at the ramp at Beaver Lake.
