29 June ICC to host Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day, Law Enforcement Exploration Camp June 29, 2026 By Camp, Tyler W General 0 Itawamba Community College's Bloom Academy will offer two hands-on summer experiences in July designed for high school students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and other neurodivergent needs to explore college life and career opportunities. The Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day will be held Monday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the ICC Tupelo Campus. The event is open to students ages 14-21 and provides participants with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a college student. Activities will include a campus scavenger hunt, career exploration rotations, life skills lab activities, social skills games and a graduation ceremony. A sensory room will be available throughout the day, and parents are invited to attend the final 30 minutes of the program. Earlier in the month, Bloom Academy will partner with ICC CORE to host a Law Enforcement Exploration Camp on Thursday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 3 of the eLearning Building on the Fulton Campus. The one-day camp is designed for prospective and current Bloom Academy students in grades 9 through age 24 who are interested in public safety careers. Participants will investigate a mock crime scene, learn fingerprinting and crime scene documentation techniques, receive gun safety instruction and participate in physical fitness activities focused on law enforcement training. The $25 registration fee includes a T-shirt and lunch. "These experiences allow students to build confidence while exploring college and career pathways in a supportive, hands-on environment," said Andrea Hardin, director of Bloom Academy. "Our goal is to help students discover new interests, strengthen life skills and see the opportunities available to them after high school." The camp will delve into crime scene investigations, team building concepts, leadership development, obstacle course training and skills challenges with instruction from experienced professionals. Times are 6th-9th grades, 8-11:30 a.m. and 10th-12th grades, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $100, which includes snacks and a camp shirt. ICC's Dickinson elected Mississippi Campus Law Enforcement Association president Itawamba Community College Campus Police Chief Jason Dickinson of Mantachie has been elected president of the Mississippi Campus Law Enforcement Association for a two-year term. Dickinson returned to ICC in 2021 to become Campus Police Chief 28 years after he first enrolled as a student. He previously spent 23 years working patrol and investigating in such roles as chief of police, chief investigator, captain patrol, commander special operation group, sergeant patrol and patrol officer. A graduate of Mantachie High School, Dickinson earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in Agribusiness and Law Enforcement at ICC. He has received numerous honors during his career in law enforcement, including the youngest Chief of Police (Mantachie) in 1998-99. In addition, his career has included serving as Patrol Sergeant for the Baldwyn Police Department and Chief Investigator for the Itawamba County Sheriff’s office. Among his certifications, Dickinson has earned the full-time Law Enforcement Certificate and every state teaching certificate. ICC Hosts Insight Luncheon Showcasing Bloom Neurodivergent Program Itawamba Community College hosted its annual Insight Luncheon Nov. 21 at the Belden Center, spotlighting the college’s Bloom Neurodivergent Program for high school counselors, career coaches, business owners and community leaders. During the luncheon, guests were immersed in Bloom’s mission, its students and the program’s newest expansion, Bloom Academy. Dr. Michelle Clouse, vice president of Instruction, and Andrea Hardin, Bloom coordinator, shared updates on Bloom’s current structure, student progress and long-term plans to expand both academic and workforce-readiness opportunities. “Bloom began with a simple belief: that every student, regardless of learning differences, deserves the opportunity to pursue their education, develop independence and contribute their gifts to the world around them,” ICC President Dr. Jay Allen said. “This program represents hope, possibility and our commitment to ensuring that every student has a place where they can grow, contribute and truly bloom.” Allen also underscored the importance of community partnerships in sustaining and growing the program. “Unlike most ICC students, Bloom students pay full tuition, and ICC receives no state reimbursement for this program,” he said. “Bloom only grows through partnerships with counselors and career coaches ...
