ICC to host Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day, Law Enforcement Exploration Camp

Itawamba Community College's Bloom Academy will offer two hands-on summer experiences in July designed for high school students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and other neurodivergent needs to explore college life and career opportunities.

The Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day will be held Monday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the ICC Tupelo Campus. The event is open to students ages 14-21 and provides participants with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a college student.

Activities will include a campus scavenger hunt, career exploration rotations, life skills lab activities, social skills games and a graduation ceremony. A sensory room will be available throughout the day, and parents are invited to attend the final 30 minutes of the program.

Earlier in the month, Bloom Academy will partner with ICC CORE to host a Law Enforcement Exploration Camp on Thursday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 3 of the eLearning Building on the Fulton Campus.

The one-day camp is designed for prospective and current Bloom Academy students in grades 9 through age 24 who are interested in public safety careers. Participants will investigate a mock crime scene, learn fingerprinting and crime scene documentation techniques, receive gun safety instruction and participate in physical fitness activities focused on law enforcement training. The $25 registration fee includes a T-shirt and lunch.

"These experiences allow students to build confidence while exploring college and career pathways in a supportive, hands-on environment," said Andrea Hardin, director of Bloom Academy. "Our goal is to help students discover new interests, strengthen life skills and see the opportunities available to them after high school."
