General 0 Itawamba Community College will host a free Red Zone Tailgate, Sept. 5, prior to the Indians’ home-opener football game with Pearl River. The schedule includes 4 p.m., Indian Spirit Walk (cheer the football team on their way to Lambert Stadium); 5 p.m., cookout sponsored by ICC’s Alumni and Foundation with Kids’ Zone activities; 6:30 p.m., pregame Freshman Run; and 7 p.m., kickoff at Eaton Field. Sophomore members of the ICC football team and cheerleaders will be recognized during the pregame activities, and members of the All-American Band, at halftime. All pregame events are free and open to the public. Additional pregame events scheduled during home football games include Sept. 12, ICC vs. East Central, All-American Heroes Night; Sept. 26, ICC vs. Mississippi Delta, ICC Jamboree (music and art festival) and Oct. 31, ICC vs. Northwest, Choptoberfest. ICC to host free MiBEST information session, Oct. 19, at Belden Center Itawamba Community College will host an information session on how individuals can earn college credits and certification in HVAC, welding/cutting or Certified Nursing Assistant while working on their high school equivalency credentials at 2 p.m., Oct. 19, at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). The free event is part of a commemoration of MiBEST Week, which is Oct. 18-23. The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program is a workforce and economic development initiative that moves low-skilled, noncredentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages, according to Linzy Patterson, ICC director of adult education. The session will also cover information on academic success and financial aid. Patterson said that pathways in addition to HVAC, welding/cutting and CNA will be available soon. Registration underway for ICC Pathway programs to begin in September Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in September at the Belden Center. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Commercial Truck Driving, Human Resources Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Basic Construction, Introduction to Industrial Maintenance and Electrician Assistant. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Sept. 21-Oct. 6. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Commercial Truck Driving begins Sept. 9 and will meet from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Oct. 2. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records.
