27 September ICC Travel Tribe schedules Italy study abroad tour in May September 27, 2022 By Thomas, Donna S. General 0 Itawamba Community College’s Travel Tribe will embark on a mini-study abroad tour of Italy next May, and a limited number of spots are available. The eight-day tour (May 18-25) includes Rome and Florence. Highlights are Vatican City, Roman Forum and Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps in Rome and Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, Basilica of Santa Croce, Gates of Paradise and Accademia in Florence. In late summer, cosponsor Jessi Stevenson joined college travel representatives from across the United States in Paris, France for a five-day training session. The Orientation and Development Seminar with EF Tours will enable Stevenson and cosponsor Dr. Edana Nail and Dean Chris Stevenson to better lead educational and travel initiatives, such as the upcoming tour of Italy. Stevenson said that EF led training seminars each morning and daily walking tours of the city each afternoon. As a result, Stevenson said that she “feels much more knowledgeable about touring internationally.” Stevenson, who first traveled to Paris as an ICC student in 1999 while earning course credit for English Literature, said the trip “sparked a love for travel, and today she strives to instill a love for travel and an appreciation for other cultures among today’s generation of ICC’s students through Travel Tribe.” The 2023 tour of Italy will explore how these two city-states, epicenters of power for centuries, gave birth to political, religious, scientific and artistic movements that continue to influence Italian culture today. There will also be an opportunity to experience modern-day Rome and Florence, connecting with locals during the exploration of each city’s unique culture, customs and cuisine. The experience includes round-trip airfare; accommodations; on-tour transportation; regional-style meals; end-to-end support; EF Global Learning Toolkit; full-time tour director; expert local guides; guided sightseeing; entrances and worldwide support, safety and security. Stevenson said that more information is available on the college website at www.iccms.edu/traveltribe. Since 2018, ICC’s Travel Tribe has been providing mini study abroad experiences in the Humanities I course.
