ICC adds ZOOM only option for spring classes Itawamba Community College students will have a fifth option for class delivery during the 2021 spring semester with the addition of ZOOM only. According to Dr. Michelle Sumerel, vice president of instructional services, the classes will be offered via ZOOM in real time with a real instructor. “The option will afford students the opportunity to be more engaged and more interactive with their instructors.” As classes fill, Sumerel said, more will be added to the 2021 spring semester schedule to enable students to take advantage of this option. They can request ZOOM only classes when they meet with their advisers to schedule classes, Sumerel noted. Classes on the schedule include Legal Environment of Business, American Literature I, English Composition II, American Literature II, English Composition I, College Life, Art Appreciation, Theatre Appreciation, Music Appreciation, First Aid and CPR, Personal and Community Health, Softball Theory, Introduction to Kinesiology, College Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, Physical Science I with Lab, Principles of Biology II with Lab, Principles of Biology I with Lab, American (U.S.) History I, General ... Jan. 15 deadline for applying for ICC Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship Jan. 15 is the deadline for applying for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship for those enrolling for the 2023 spring semester at Itawamba Community College. To apply for the scholarship, students must be 21 years of age or older and enrolling in classes to pursue a degree. Full-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of 15 hours, will receive $2,000 ($500 per semester), and part-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of six hours, will receive $1,000 ($250 per semester). The Adult Learner scholarship must be used in consecutive semesters. Eligibility must begin the first semester of attendance and cannot be used more than once. It is for students who begin enrollment for the 2021 fall term. Day and evening, academic, career education, eLearning and workforce classes are available in Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. ICC, TPSD sign MOU for innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program to begin this fall Itawamba Community College and the Tupelo Public School District signed a memorandum of understanding today to announce the innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program, which will begin this fall. The agreement, which was signed by ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and TPSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Picou in a formal ceremony, will promote early entry into the two-year nursing program. Qualified applicants will begin this track in their junior year. “Graduating seniors are often attracted to the idea of ‘going away’ to experience the first year of college,” Allen said. “Many of those graduates return home for various reasons and do not have a degree. If we can attract graduates early, we can educate them and give them an opportunity early that will open unlimited doors.” “Nursing offers a variety of job opportunities, both locally and beyond,” said Dr. Dana Walker, director of ICC’s Associate Degree Nursing program. Nursing assistant class Registration is underway through Sept. 15 for a nursing assistant class at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 16-Dec. 13, but clinicals and CPR class are full-day sessions. The course prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession. Cost of the course is $425.
