20 July Thomas joins ICC Alumni Association Board of Directors July 20, 2026 By Camp, Tyler W General 0 Frank Thomas of Houston has joined the Itawamba Community College Alumni Association Board of Directors as a representative of Chickasaw County. Thomas attended ICC, then Itawamba Junior College, from 1973-75. During his time at the college, he played football under coach Ben Jones and baseball under coach Curtis Monroe. He later continued his education at Mississippi State University. A longtime Houston businessman, Thomas retired after serving 34 years as managing partner of Nabors Home Center. Thomas has remained actively involved in his community throughout his career. He served four years on the Houston School Board and 16 years as a City of Houston alderman. He also is a past president of both the Houston Touchdown Club and Houston Diamond Club. Thomas is a member and deacon of Parkway Baptist Church in Houston. He and his wife, Shirley, have two sons, Drew and Zane, and are grandparents. As a member of the ICC Alumni Association Board of Directors, Thomas will help strengthen connections among alumni, the college and the communities ICC serves. Related Articles Join ICC's Alumni Association and for a limited time, receive a free Mississippi custom car license plate Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for Mississippi residents, especially its alumni, to share its message through displaying a custom car license plate. For a limited time, residents of the state can join ICC’s Alumni Association for a $20 yearly membership fee, and receive the license plate free of charge, according to Michael Upton, director of Advancement. Incoming ICC Alumni Association President Joey Cox of Fulton has already ordered a tag to support the College. “I am very proud of my association with ICC and enjoyed my time spent here. I look for opportunities to show my ICC pride and think our specialty ICC car tag is a great way to express that pride.” Karen McFerrin of Mantachie, past Alumni Association president and current board member, agrees. “I can’t think of a better way to show support for the college I love than displaying an ICC tag on my car. Alumni Association membership drive continues Itawamba Community College’s Alumni Association is attempting to reconnect with more than 16,000 graduates or those who have attended as part of its annual membership drive which is underway. Scaggs joins ICC Board of Trustees William Nickles “Skip” Scaggs of Amory has been appointed to the Itawamba Community College Board of Trustees. Currently the executive director of the North Mississippi Industrial Development Association, Scaggs has been previously employed with the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and the Mississippi Development Authority. His educational background includes Meridian Community College, Stetson University and Jackson State University. Scaggs’ civic and church activities include chair of the North Mississippi Medical Center Amory-Gilmore Board of Advisors, chair of the Mississippi District Export Council, member of the executive committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, member of the board of directors of the Mississippi Auto Manufacturing Association and vestry member of St. John’s in Aberdeen. He and his wife, the former Brenda Thornhill, are the parents of Zachary, 16; and Carter, 13. Scaggs fills the unexpired term of long-time Board of Trustees member Thomas Griffith of Amory. ICC's Thornton selected as member of MAST board of directors Alicia King Thornton of Tupelo, Surgical Technology program director at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a member of the board of directors for the Mississippi Association of Surgical Technology for a two-year term. A native of Verona, Thornton is a graduate of Shannon High School and ICC (Associate of Arts degree). She was accepted into the Surgical Technology program in the summer of 2012 and earned the Associate of Applied Sciences degree in 2013. Her additional education background includes certification as Surgical First Assistant (training with Baptist Hospital) and the Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Mississippi. Her employment history includes Baptist Golden Triangle in Columbus and East Mississippi Community College (Surgical Technology program director). Thornton rejoined the ICC family in 2022 in her current position. Additional memberships include the Association of Surgical Technology, Association of Surgical Assistants and First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
