Twelve sophomores selected for 2020 ICC Hall of Fame

            Twelve Itawamba Community College sophomores have been selected as members of the prestigious Hall of Fame for 2019-20.

            They include Edward A. Bean of New Albany; Jared Brittian Callihan of Amory; Jeffery Earnest, Amber Jones, both of Tupelo; Madison Haley of Olive Branch; Kalyn Johnson of Fulton; Nami Ikawa, Jillian McCollum, Kaylika Pulphus, all of Saltillo; TJ McIntosh of Wren; Mary-Elizabeth Moore of Red Bay, Ala. and Anna Pounds of Belmont.

            Bean is majoring in Electrical Technology. The son of Michael and Linda Bean, he is married to Melanie.

            Callihan, who is majoring in Surgical Technology, was named to the president’s list. He is the son of Kelley Callihan.

            Earnest is a member of Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Student Association and the Nurses’ Christian Fellowship. His honors include dean’s and president’s lists and National Association of Licensed Practical Nursing. Earnest’s other activities are North Mississippi Nurse Honor Guard, Lee County animal volunteer, Weston Reed Foundation, North Mississippi Health Foundation, American Assembly for Men in Nursing and American Nurses Association. He is the son of Martha and Lee Earnest.

            Haley is majoring in communications at ICC, where she is an Orientation Leader, Social Media Ambassador, Community Relations student worker, Chieftain sports editor, Mirror editor and member of Phi Theta Kappa, Baptist Student Union and Indian Delegation. Her honors include Homecoming maid, President’s list, College Public Relations Association of Mississippi awards and Mississippi Press Association Better Newspaper Contest award.  Haley’s other activities are DNOW leader, Bible study leader, softball camp leader and campus cleanup leader. She is the daughter of Glen and Ginger Haley.

            Ikawa, who is majoring in exercise science, is president of the Tupelo Campus Student Government Association, vice president of scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa, Supplemental Instruction leader and member of several leadership committees. Her honors include Miss ICC finalist, president’s list, honor student and All-Mississippi Academic Team. She serves as a student observer at physical therapy clinics, community representative for the Alzheimer’s Organization – Mississippi chapter, community volunteer at HealthWorks! and does private tutoring for elementary-college students. She is the daughter of Og Youn (Diane) Hwang and Hiroyuki Ikawa.

            Johnson is majoring in biology at ICC, where she is president of the Upsilon Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, vice president of the Science Club, co-chair of the Honors in Action project, member of Sigma Kappa Delta and Supplemental Instruction leader. Her ICC honors include HEADWAE, Honors College and President’s List. She is the daughter of Charolette Johnson and Joseph Johnson.

            Jones is majoring in psychology at ICC, where she is treasurer of the Student Government Association, president of the Beta Tau Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and a member of the Indian Delegation and student activities committee. Her honors include Homecoming queen, All-Mississippi Academic Team and president’s and dean’s lists. She attends Mudcreek Baptist Church in Saltillo, and she volunteers to read books to children at a daycare. Her parents are Chevelle Powell and Reford Jones.

            McCollum, who is majoring in elementary education, is secretary for the Student Government Association, vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa and a tutor for Supplemental Instruction. Her honors include president’s list and Homecoming maid. McCollum’s other activities are church – children’s committee, DNOW leader, children’s church and nursery volunteer, Vacation Bible School leader; and various community service projects. She is the daughter of Jordan and Jennifer McCollum.

            McIntosh is majoring in biology/pre-medicine concentration at ICC, where he is vice president of the Student Government Association, Indian Delegate, Phi Theta Kappa officer, MAN UP tutor and a member of Sigma Delta Kappa, the Science Club and ICC All-American Band. His honors include president’s list, 2020 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship semifinalist, All-Mississippi Academic Team and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship recipient. He is a member of the Greater New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as president of the youth department and youth usher. He is the son of Torrance and Sylvia McIntosh.

A general studies and theatre major, Moore is president of the Film Club, vice president of Sigma Kappa Delta and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She also is a student worker. Her honors include Theatre award, president’s and dean’s lists, first place in dramatic writing in the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association competition and Honors College. Moore’s other activities are secretary for the Bay Tree Council for the Performing Arts, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Red Bay First United Methodist Church and church choir. She is the daughter of Hannah Fowler Haddock and the late Stephen Moore.

            Pounds is majoring in business at ICC, where she is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta and the Political Science Club; vice president of leadership and co-chair of the College Project steering committee for Phi Theta Kappa; and Supplemental Instruction leader. Her honors include president’s list, Honors College and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. She attends Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Her parents are Rita and Andy Pounds.

            Pulphus is a psychology major at ICC, where she works at the Early Learning Center. Her honors include Phi Theta Kappa and the president’s and dean’s lists. Pulphus’s other activities are Boys and Girls Club volunteer and youth leader for children’s church. She is the daughter of Kimberly Long.

            The Hall of Fame will be featured in the 2020 ICC yearbook, the Mirror.
