ICC partners with USM for 2+2 program for construction management degree

Itawamba Community College has entered into a partnership with the University of Southern Mississippi for a 2 + 2 program to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management.             ICC’s Construction Management Technology is an instructional program designed to prepare technicians for employment within the construction industries and firms in mid-level management operations as estimators, planners, project managers, layout specialists or other construction opportunities. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, students are awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree.             According to Scott Emison, instructor and director of ICC’s Construction Management Technology program, the program allows his students to transfer to the University of Southern Mississippi to complete degree work in two years.             “This collaboration is a new and a slightly more direct route for ICC’s students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management at Southern Miss,” Emison said. “This 2 + 2 option allows our ICC students the opportunity to fully transfer credit of 60 hours and to seamlessly enter the third-year cohort with the rest of the USM-BCM track students. ICC schedules day adult education student enrollment, Feb. 20

Itawamba Community College will enroll new day adult education students at the Belden Center, Feb. 20.                 Individuals 18 years of age and older will begin at 9 a.m., and 16-/17-year-old students, 1 p.m.                 Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.                 Day and night classes are also offered throughout the Itawamba Community College District. ICC to host Code Blue and Red event, Feb. 23

Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event Feb. 23, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Students from area schools will be on campus in two shifts (8:15 and 10:15 a.m.) to participate in three simulated scenarios that highlight each of ICC’s 11 Health Science programs, said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said. “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Sciences, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Public Health, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology. Registration now open for ICC orientation sessions

Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2024 summer and fall semesters.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Apr. 10 (Honors), Apr. 19, Apr. 26, June 11, June 12, July 10, July 11, all at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Campus; Apr. 19, Apr. 26, June 11, June 12, July 10, July 11, all at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton Campus; and June 13, July 9, both at 1 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. ...

ICC's Triplett to be featured speaker for Feb. 12 Unity program

Deon Triplett, coordinator for the Minority Achievement Network for Upward Progression (MANUP) at Itawamba Community College, will be the featured speaker for a Unity Program in celebration of Black History Month, at noon, Feb. 12, at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus in the Academic and Student Center, and at 6 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus.             Triplett currently resides in Tupelo with his wife, Lealue Kriscia Triplett, and their sons, Kayden, Kayson and Karson. He earned the associate’s degree from Itawamba Community College, the bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain Christian University and the master’s degree from Walden University. Prior to joining the ICC family, he was a Mental Health Clinician for Lifecore Health Group in Tupelo. Triplett accepted his call into the ministry at the age of 20 and preached his first sermon at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in 2005. From 2014-22, he served as senior pastor at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hamilton, and he now is Lead Pastor at The Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Twelve members of Itawamba Community College’s faculty and staff have been selected to participate in its Leadership Development Institute for 2024-25.           They include Lindsey Patterson, Natural Science instructor/eLearning A&P lead and A&P department chair, and Madison Robinson, recruiter, both of Amory; Audra Perry of Belden, Adult Education director; Lee Adams, Bookstore manager, Kaitlyn Stanfield, Housing and Residence Life coordinator, and Rachel Steele, director of Admissions/Registrar, all of Fulton; Jason Dickinson, Campus Police chief, and Jason Williams, Transportation director, both of Mantachie; Caleb Ramey of Red Bay, Ala., systems administrator; Adam Denton of Saltillo, Respiratory Therapy program director; Stacey Loden, Workforce accountability and information specialist, and Alicia Thornton, Surgical Technology program director, both of Tupelo.           Adams, who joined the ICC family in 2014, previously served as assistant Sports Information director. Local musician to kick off ICC's Senior College, Feb. 6

Dale Rushing of Tupelo will kick off Itawamba Community College’s Senior College, Feb. 6, with a presentation on the influence of Mississippi musicians on the music industry.             Rushing is a member of the Rust Bucket Roadies of Mooreville and a self-described late bloomer in the music world. The group is “a lively band that will get your feet moving with their rowdy throwback backbeat of years gone by,” according to their social media account. “They are a true Mississippi gem playing some of the best rocking blues you will ever hear. They have the sound that made Sam Phillips famous influenced by the Hill country blues of North Mississippi, true Americana music that will rock everyone of every age.”             In addition to Rushing’s presentation, there will be bingo and door prizes.             The Senior College meets once per month, except for February, from 9-11 a.m. at the ICC Belden Center.             The next session will be Feb. 20, when Tupelo’s Jack Reed, Jr. will share excerpts from his book, “A Time to Listen.”             The first session is free, but a $30 ...

Tom Douglas's work now on display at ICC Fine Arts Center gallery

Recent works by Fulton resident Tom Douglas will be on display from Jan. 29-Feb. 22 in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.             The exhibition, which is entitled Pathos and Whimsy, includes landscapes of Shiloh National Battlefield, which is on the route to Douglas’s native home in Tennessee. His intent is for the work to document curiosity and layered investigation.             Douglas was a member of ICC’s art faculty from 1983 until he retired in 2013.             Gallery hours are from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. except on days that the college is closed.
