ICC sets Spring Preview Day, Mar. 22, for high school juniors

           High school juniors will have an opportunity to learn about student life at Itawamba Community College during Spring Preview Day, Mar. 22, from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus.             The schedule includes arrival and check-in, 8:15-8:50 a.m.; welcome, 9 a.m.; preview expo and campus tours, 9:15 a.m.; and optional lunch at the dining hall ($7 per person meal ticket), noon.             Spring Preview Day ‘24 will include information about ICC’s schools of, including academic, health science and career education programs, and participants can interact directly with faculty within the areas. ICC among state community college enrollment leaders for spring 2024

Itawamba Community College ranks among the leaders in the state in full-time enrollment for the 2024 spring semester, according to figures recently released by the Mississippi Community College Board.             With spring enrollment at 4,476 at the end of the 10-day reporting period, figures from spring ‘23 to spring ‘24 show a 7 percent increase in headcount and a 9.7 percent increase in FTE with a second-place ranking.             However, ICC had the largest percentage increase than any other community college in the state when reviewing combined FTE increases for fall ’23 and spring ‘24.             The increase can be attributed to multiple factors, according to ICC President Dr. Jay Allen, including the addition of state-of-the-art Magnolia Hall for honors students and student leaders, an enhanced emphasis on activities, expanded free personal orientation sessions and the transition to the schools of approach to enable student connections both to their field of study and their peers.             “This is very exciting news,” Allen said. “The increase in the number of students that ICC is serving is significant because we have additional opportunities to ...

ICC to present "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," Mar. 21, 22

            Itawamba Community College has selected the cast and crew for its spring production, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which will be Mar. 21 and 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus.             Cast members are Jacob Evans, Spencer Griffie, both of Amory; Holly Foster of Marietta; Adam Harmon of Nettleton; Ron Jenkins, Kyla Ratliff, both of Smithville; and Alexis Walker of Tupelo. Crew members are Dylan Christian of Amory; Skylar Sewell of Biloxi; Joey White of Houston; Kassandra Ramirez of Pontotoc; and Jimmy K. ICC schedules spring semester Preparing for the ACT sessions

              The Itawamba Community College Continuing Education Department has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT during the 2024 spring semester. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.                 Math and science sessions include Apr. 6, June 1 and 29. English and reading are offered Mar. 23, May 11 and June 15.                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required. ICC students advance to state creative writing competition

Itawamba Community College has selected winners of its creative writing competition, and they will be honored during Sigma Kappa Delta’s spring induction ceremony on the Fulton Campus.             They include             Mooreville – Carmen Birmingham, second place, essay, for “Anne Bradstreet’s Poems Upon a Closer Look;” Alexandria Christian, second place, poetry, for “Counting Stars;”             Okolona – Tytianna Brooks, first place, short story, for “Don’t Go;”             Pontotoc – Anna Thomas, first place, poetry, for “Coin Purse;”             Saltillo – Lauren Paul, second place, short story, for “To Everything I Had Once Loved;”             Smithville – Blake Ligon, second place, drama, for “Happy Anniversary;”             Tupelo – Luke Nichols, first place, drama, for “AD&D 5e Story – Chapter 1;” and James Ross, first place, essay, for “Analysis of the Portrayal of Death in the Poem ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death’” by Emily Dickinson.             Their work will be entered into the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association competition, and winners will be notified on Mar. 22. ICC partners with USM for 2+2 program for construction management degree

Itawamba Community College has entered into a partnership with the University of Southern Mississippi for a 2 + 2 program to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management.             ICC’s Construction Management Technology is an instructional program designed to prepare technicians for employment within the construction industries and firms in mid-level management operations as estimators, planners, project managers, layout specialists or other construction opportunities. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, students are awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree.             According to Scott Emison, instructor and director of ICC’s Construction Management Technology program, the program allows his students to transfer to the University of Southern Mississippi to complete degree work in two years.             “This collaboration is a new and a slightly more direct route for ICC’s students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management at Southern Miss,” Emison said. “This 2 + 2 option allows our ICC students the opportunity to fully transfer credit of 60 hours and to seamlessly enter the third-year cohort with the rest of the USM-BCM track students. ICC schedules day adult education student enrollment, Feb. 20

Itawamba Community College will enroll new day adult education students at the Belden Center, Feb. 20.                 Individuals 18 years of age and older will begin at 9 a.m., and 16-/17-year-old students, 1 p.m.                 Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.                 Day and night classes are also offered throughout the Itawamba Community College District. ICC to host Code Blue and Red event, Feb. 23

Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event Feb. 23, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Students from area schools will be on campus in two shifts (8:15 and 10:15 a.m.) to participate in three simulated scenarios that highlight each of ICC’s 11 Health Science programs, said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said. “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Sciences, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Public Health, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology. Registration now open for ICC orientation sessions

Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2024 summer and fall semesters.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Apr. 10 (Honors), Apr. 19, Apr. 26, June 11, June 12, July 10, July 11, all at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Campus; Apr. 19, Apr. 26, June 11, June 12, July 10, July 11, all at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton Campus; and June 13, July 9, both at 1 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. ...

ICC's Triplett to be featured speaker for Feb. 12 Unity program

Deon Triplett, coordinator for the Minority Achievement Network for Upward Progression (MANUP) at Itawamba Community College, will be the featured speaker for a Unity Program in celebration of Black History Month, at noon, Feb. 12, at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus in the Academic and Student Center, and at 6 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus.             Triplett currently resides in Tupelo with his wife, Lealue Kriscia Triplett, and their sons, Kayden, Kayson and Karson. He earned the associate’s degree from Itawamba Community College, the bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain Christian University and the master’s degree from Walden University. Prior to joining the ICC family, he was a Mental Health Clinician for Lifecore Health Group in Tupelo. Triplett accepted his call into the ministry at the age of 20 and preached his first sermon at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in 2005. From 2014-22, he served as senior pastor at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hamilton, and he now is Lead Pastor at The Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
