ICC to host Coffee Convos to assist high school seniors with admission

            Itawamba Community College is hosting Coffee Convos at several locations throughout its five-county district to assist high school seniors with admissions, scholarships and housing.             Recruiters Taylor Tutor and Jordan Smith will be available to answer questions and for guidance in the application process.             The locations include Tupelo River Coffee, Jan. 19, noon-2 p.m.; The Grounds Coffee Shop (ICC-Fulton), Jan. 26, noon-2 p.m.; Blacksmith BBQ in Pontotoc, Jan. 28, noon-2 p.m.; The Coffee Pot in Amory, Feb. 2, noon-2 p.m.; and Gather Coffee and Brew in Houston, Feb. 9, noon-2 p.m.             A sign up link is being sent to the students for whom email addresses are available. Pathway programs to begin soon at ICC-Belden

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin soon. They include SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course, Jan. 28; Certified Nursing Assistant, Feb. 1; and Human Resources Assistant, Feb. 18. The SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The program is designed for current HR professionals who would like to advance their careers by earning the nationally-recognized SHRM-CP credential to be recognized as industry experts and viewed as valuable assets to their organization. The curriculum used in this course is the Society for Human Resource Management 2020 Learning System, which provides an in-depth overview of the knowledge and industry expertise needed to sit for and pass the SHRM-CP certification exam. Key topics include behavioral competencies and technical knowledge. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. ICC schedules Preparing for the ACT sessions

The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.             Math and science sessions include Jan. 30, Apr. 10 and May 29. English and reading are offered Jan. 23, Apr. 3 and June 5.             ICC’s ACT prep instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods: review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “’studying smart” that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests are administered to measure performance. Spring 2021 registration continues

             Registration for the 2021 spring semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Jan. 15 for traditional full-term day and night classes.             Traditional full-term day and first eight-week classes begin Jan. 11; and eLearning full-term and first eight-week classes, Jan. 19. The last day to add eLearning first eight-week classes is Jan. 20 and eLearning full-term classes, Jan. 22             Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships.             Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. Instructional delivery methods include face-to-face, face-to-face/online hybrid, face-to-face/ZOOM hybrid, ZOOM only and online. ICC to offer Intro to Welding and Cutting

            Registration is underway for Introduction to Welding and Cutting, which will begin Feb. 2 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             It meets from 6-9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, through Mar. 4.             The class is designed to gprovide entry-level skills in welding and cutting as well as to prepare students to do very basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. This class can also be useful to the small farmer or business owner who has many do-it-yourself projects since different types of welding are emphasized. The class includes a basic introduction to oxy-fuel cutting, welding safety, voltage regulation and setting wire feed speeds as well as a lot of “hands-on” practice. ICC schedules 2021 spring open registration

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled open registration for the 2021 spring semester.             Options include Jan. 6 from 4-7 p.m., Jan. 7 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Jan. 8 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic and Student Center at the Tupelo Campus; and Jan. 7 and 8 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Advising office on the second floor of the David C. ICC Food Service Pathway class set to begin Jan. 11

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Jan. 11.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Feb. 5.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.             For more information or to register, contact program director Christy Scheuer at acscheuer@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1505; or pathway coordinator Josh Gammill at jegammill@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1569.
