ICC sets June, July orientation sessions

Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions in June and July for students who plan to enroll for the 2021 summer and fall semesters.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for June 8 and July 13 at 1 p.m. and June 17 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fulton Campus and June 10 and July 1 at 8:30 a.m., June 15 at 1 p.m., June 17 and July 22 at 5 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, dean of enrollment services. “The sessions will also provide an opportunity for adult learners to connect with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”             ICC orientation is mandatory for all ...

ICC schedules Small Ensembles Concert, Apr. 13

Itawamba Community College’s Small Ensembles will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m., Apr. 13, at the Crane Pavilion on the Fulton Campus. The groups include Mixed Woodwind Ensemble, Rush Hour Saxophone Quartet, Brass Ensemble and Steel Band. Members of the Brass Ensemble include Jaden Buchanan of Aberdeen; Madeline Martin of Amory; Kindal Gammill of Ackerman; Preston Cox of Fulton; Taya Baggett of Hamilton; Perashia Dunlap of Hatley; Mason Ruffin of Mantachie;  Tyjey Arnold, Marissa Johnson, Ella Kate Nichols, Lillian Angle, Isaac Williams, Brannon Wilder, Emma Carwile, Austin Stokes, all of Pontotoc; Mitchell Bennett of Saltillo; and Michael Smith of Smithville. ICC, Fulton partner in significant sidewalk project

Itawamba Community College and the City of Fulton announced today the awarding of $1.1 million in Federal Transportation Alternative Program funds from the Mississippi Department of Transportation for sidewalk installation along West Main Street.             ICC and the City of Fulton will be responsible for 20 percent of the total as well as professional engineering fees, according to John Wayne Harris, director of Projects and Energy Management Systems.             The sidewalk will be constructed along West Main Street and will begin in downtown Fulton east of the Fulton Telephone Company and continue to the trailhead, Harris said. Another section will be installed from West Main along Stadium Drive and end at the Access Road.             Pushbutton crosswalks at Stadium Drive and in front of both Sheffield Hall and the new ICC residence hall will help ensure the safety of college students, pedestrians and the residents of Fulton. In addition, the project will feature LED decorative post-top lights to provide well-lit pathways to promote student and visitor safety. ICC's Salinas selected for prestigious Delta Scholars Program

Itawamba Community College sophomore Diana Salinas of Golden has been selected for the prestigious 2021 Delta Scholars Program. The Delta Scholars Summer Institute is a 10-day immersion program during which students will work to identify an issue of inequality or injustice in which they are interested and develop a proposal for a project that will promote dialogue and change around that issue in their own communities or the state of Mississippi. Salinas and the other students will spend the first portion of the program at the Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University, where they will engage with faculty and guest lecturers from a range of disciplines to learn about issues currently challenging the people and the economy of Mississippi, including food insecurity, public health, education and more. Substantive lessons designed to teach students about the workings and impact of different systems in the Delta will be intermixed with skills-based workshops designed to give students the planning, research and advocacy skills necessary to begin developing their independent projects. Registration underway for ICC Summer Band Camp

            Registration is under way for the 2021 Itawamba Community College Summer Band Camp, which will be June 20-25.             The camp is designed for those interested in furthering their music education, strengthening their leadership skills and creating lifelong friendships, according to director Ryan Todd. Since 1981, the camp has hosted more than 16,000 students from all over the United States. Harris comes to ICC and finds home

Brewer native John Wayne Harris, director of Projects and Energy Management Systems, came to Itawamba Community College as a freshman in the fall of 2006, and he never left.             The son of Nannette and Joe Harris, he had just graduated from Shannon High School in the spring.             During the first few days of his freshman year, he said he jumped feet first into running the sound for CenterStage for its fall concert and “turned around and did the same thing for the dinner theatre, all the while going to class and being a part of the All-American Marching Band.”             And somehow he just knew he wanted to earn his degree and start his career at ICC.             Through running the sound for CenterStage, he began working with Terry McCarthy, former technical events coordinator, on activities that were scheduled for the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. That led him to being a student worker for (Coach) Carrie Ball-Williamson, athletic director. ICC Films to host screening, Apr. 6

ICC Films will host a film screening, A NIGHT WITH RISING STARS, Apr. 6, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the Fulton Campus.             The doors will open at 6 p.m. for students to walk the red carpet and have their pictures made (optional). Dress can be formal or casual.             The screening of the two films will begin at 7 p.m. “Ruby,” which was written by Jade Keaton of Tupelo and directed by Charlie Wright of Pontotoc, stars Annaka Langley of Houston and Ashlyn Holcomb of Fulton. “Mississippi Minute” stars Ryan Perich of Saltillo and Patrick Gallagher (Los Angeles, Calif.) from “Night at the Museum.”             The event is free to the public, and concessions will be available for purchase. eLearning second four-week class registration continues

Food Service Pathway class to begin Mar. 29 at ICC-Belden

             Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Mar. 29.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Apr. 23.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.
