Six ICC sophomores named to All-Mississippi Academic Team

            Six Itawamba Community College sophomores have been named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team.

            They include Kristen Howell, Diana Salinas, both of Golden; Anna Grace McKinney of Nettleton; Jason Brock of Pontotoc; Abby Rinehart, Reilly Grace Carter, both of Saltillo.

            Howell is majoring in Computer Programming/Networking Technology. She is a member of the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the Computer Programming and Networking Association. Her honors include Hall of Fame and President’s List. She serves as a volunteer with her church with sound equipment and is a former member of 4-H. Her parents are Larry and Angie Howell.

            Salinas is majoring in computer science at ICC, where she is vice president of the Student Government Association, president of the Computer Science Club, Diamond Girl, member of the Honors College and vice president of leadership and regional reporter for the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Her honors include Hall of Fame, semifinalist for the Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, Dean’s and President’s lists, SGA and Dean’s Scholarships and NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars. Her community and church activities are translating, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and tutoring. Her parents are Gabriela Cortes and Santos Vazquez.

            McKinney is vice president of scholarship and public relations for the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at ICC, where she is majoring in Physical Therapist Assistant Technology. Her honors include President’s List for two years and secretary for the MS/LA Region of PTK. McKinney attends Crosspointe Fellowship in Nettleton, where she livestreams services, works with cross kids and at the welcoming desk. Currently she serves as FFA state president. Her parents are Chuck and Lisa McKinney.

            Brock is majoring in computer networking and programming and business at ICC, where he is a member of the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. His honors include 2019-20 Top Scholar in Information Systems Computer Programming. He is the son of Jeanne W. Brock and Terry D. Brock.

            Rinehart is majoring in business administration – pre-law at ICC where she is president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and serves as a member of the new residence hall committee and Supplemental Instruction Leader. Her honors are Hall of Fame, President’s List, Honors College, Dean’s Scholarship recipient and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Tupelo. Her parents are Jennifer and Christopher Rinehart.

            Carter, who is a political science major, is president of the Tupelo Campus Student Government Association, vice president of service for the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and member of the Indian Delegation and Wesley Foundation. She was an Orientation Leader for 2020. Her ICC honors include Dean’s Scholarship, Hall of Fame, President’s and Dean’s Lists and sophomore homecoming maid. Carter serves as an intern for the Lee County Youth Court and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker and is a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Starkville. Her parents are Chris and Denise Carter.

            Each two-year college in Mississippi may nominate students to the All-USA Academic Team. Nominations are based on academic performance and service to the college and community.
