ICC Senior College Kicks Off Fall Semester with Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson Itawamba Community College’s Continuing Education department invites area adults to kick off the fall semester of Senior College with an informative presentation focused on staying safe and avoiding scams. The semester’s first Senior College gathering will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the ICC Belden Center. Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson will present “Senior Safety and Avoiding Scams.” As scammers increasingly target older adults through phone calls, text messages, emails and social media, Johnson will share practical tips to help participants recognize warning signs, protect their personal information and avoid becoming victims of fraud. The presentation will also address personal safety and ways to remain alert in everyday situations. Senior College is a monthly program designed for adults who enjoy lifelong learning, meaningful conversation and connecting with others. Thomas joins ICC Alumni Association Board of Directors Frank Thomas of Houston has joined the Itawamba Community College Alumni Association Board of Directors as a representative of Chickasaw County. Thomas attended ICC, then Itawamba Junior College, from 1973-75. During his time at the college, he played football under coach Ben Jones and baseball under coach Curtis Monroe. He later continued his education at Mississippi State University. A longtime Houston businessman, Thomas retired after serving 34 years as managing partner of Nabors Home Center. Thomas has remained actively involved in his community throughout his career. He served four years on the Houston School Board and 16 years as a City of Houston alderman. He also is a past president of both the Houston Touchdown Club and Houston Diamond Club. Thomas is a member and deacon of Parkway Baptist Church in Houston. He and his wife, Shirley, have two sons, Drew and Zane, and are grandparents. As a member of the ICC Alumni Association Board of Directors, Thomas will help strengthen connections among alumni, the college and the communities ICC serves. ICC, William Carey University sign transfer agreement to expand bachelor's degree pathways Itawamba Community College and William Carey University signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday establishing a partnership that creates a streamlined transfer pathway for ICC graduates seeking to earn bachelor's degrees. The agreement formalizes collaboration between the two institutions to assist students as they transition from ICC to William Carey University. Under the partnership, William Carey University will provide transfer advising, degree planning assistance, information on transfer scholarships and financial aid, and flexible course options, including online, hybrid and face-to-face classes. ICC will provide opportunities for recruitment and advising at its locations while working alongside William Carey advisors to support student success. Transfer of applicable career and technical coursework will be considered through the university's academic review process. ICC announces 2026-27 All-American Marching Band drum majors, color guard and Indianetttes Itawamba Community College has announced the student leaders and auxiliary members for the 2026-27 All-American Marching Band, the largest community college marching band in Mississippi. Leading the band this season are five drum majors, including Head Drum Major Shaylee Weeks of Amory. Other drum majors are Isaac Jones of Starkville, Preston Foster and Sarah Hays, both of Pontotoc, and Cheyenna Cable of Ecru. ICC to host Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day, Law Enforcement Exploration Camp Itawamba Community College's Bloom Academy will offer two hands-on summer experiences in July designed for high school students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and other neurodivergent needs to explore college life and career opportunities. The Bloom Academy Summer Preview Day will be held Monday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the ICC Tupelo Campus. The event is open to students ages 14-21 and provides participants with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a college student. Activities will include a campus scavenger hunt, career exploration rotations, life skills lab activities, social skills games and a graduation ceremony. Gore named MACCC Sports Information Director of the Year Itawamba Community College Sports Information Director and Director of Media Relations Adam Gore has been named the 2026 Sports Information Director of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC). The award recognizes outstanding leadership and service in athletic communications among Mississippi’s community colleges. Gore joined ICC in 2010 as the college’s first Assistant Sports Information Director and was promoted to Sports Information Director and Director of Media Relations in 2014. Since then, he has helped increase the visibility of ICC Athletics through innovative storytelling, digital media and strategic communications. “Adam has dedicated his career to telling the stories of our student-athletes, coaches and programs,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “His passion for ICC, commitment to excellence and innovative approach to athletic communications have elevated the visibility of our college across the state and nation. Limited 2026 Orientation sessions remain for incoming ICC students Itawamba Community College reminds incoming students that only two Orientation sessions remain before the start of the fall semester. All June Orientation sessions have reached capacity, leaving only two opportunities for first-time freshmen to complete the required program. Remaining sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, at 1 p.m. on the Tupelo Campus and Wednesday, July 15, at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the Fulton Campus. All first-time freshmen are required to attend one Orientation session before beginning classes. There is no cost to participate. Orientation introduces students to academic programs, student services, financial aid, campus resources and expectations for college success. Participants also have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff while preparing for their transition to college. Students may register online at iccms.edu/Orientation.
