General 0 Itawamba Community College’s Financial Aid offices have scheduled FAFSA Fridays beginning Oct. 4 to assist prospective students with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. ICC staff members will be available to assist with completion of the online form as well as to answer any questions at both the Fulton and Tupelo campus offices, which are located in the Student Services buildings. Students are encouraged to visit the Tupelo Campus office, if possible because of the availability of more computers. The FAFSA is the form used by the U.S. Department of Education to determine eligibility for federal, state and college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, educational loans and work-study programs, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid at ICC. ICC pathway programs set to begin in October Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in October. They include Certified Nursing Assistant (two classes), Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification, Basic Construction and Quality Improvement Associate. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 12-Dec. 16, and the day class will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Oct. 12-27. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Commercial Truck Driving begins Oct. 12 and will meet Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Nov. 6. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. ICC, Get2College to offer FAFSA assistance at Apr. 26 drive-thru event Students and parents who need assistance with completion of the FAFSA form have an opportunity during a drive-thru event at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus, Apr. 26, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the parking lot beside the Academic and Student Center. Representatives from Get2College and ICC’s Financial Aid office will be available to assist with filing the FAFSA, State Aid application, ICC scholarships and county aid for 2021-22, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. “The event will be primarily to assist students and parents who, due to COVID-19, may not yet be comfortable with coming into the office,” Bland said. Tents will be set up to provide a safe, socially distanced environment. “Even if you do not think you are eligible for a Pell grant, you should still file your FAFSA in order to be considered for emergency funding, which is available from the U.S. Department of Education,” he noted. ICC, TPSD sign MOU for innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program to begin this fall Itawamba Community College and the Tupelo Public School District signed a memorandum of understanding today to announce the innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program, which will begin this fall. The agreement, which was signed by ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and TPSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Picou in a formal ceremony, will promote early entry into the two-year nursing program. Qualified applicants will begin this track in their junior year. “Graduating seniors are often attracted to the idea of ‘going away’ to experience the first year of college,” Allen said. “Many of those graduates return home for various reasons and do not have a degree. If we can attract graduates early, we can educate them and give them an opportunity early that will open unlimited doors.” “Nursing offers a variety of job opportunities, both locally and beyond,” said Dr. Dana Walker, director of ICC’s Associate Degree Nursing program.
