General 0 Nathan Ward of Mooreville has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2021. He will present “Crossing the Bar: Attaining Student Success,” at 6 p.m., Jan. 26, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Limited seating will be available, but livestream will be provided. He will be honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Public Awards ceremony, Mar. 26, in Jackson. “This is an unexpected, but completely appreciated honor,” Ward said. “ICC demands success on every level, and it is hard for me to imagine working anywhere else.” A 1998 graduate of ICC, Ward earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. Since 2007, he has served as an English instructor at ICC, where he also has been a supplemental instruction technician since 2018. His employment history includes New Albany High School, Tupelo High School, the University of Mississippi and adjunct English instructor at ICC. Ward serves as Sigma Kappa Delta faculty sponsor at ICC. He is a member of ICC’s Curriculum and Academic Calendar and Enrollment committees and a student adviser. His professional memberships and affiliations include SKD, the National Council of Teachers of English and National Writing Project/University of Mississippi Writing Project. His honors are William Winter Faculty Scholar Award, Lamplighter Award, HEADWAE 2018 Outstanding Faculty honoree, ICC Leadership Development Institute graduate and QEP Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award. He is the worship leader at Trinity Baptist Church in Fulton. Ward and his wife, Kelly, are the parents of Ely, 19; Braydy, 16; and Luke, 13. Morris selected as ICC's Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee Keith Morris of Tupelo has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2022. He will present “Little Boxes” at 6 p.m., Mar. 28, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Morris will be honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony Mar. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum in Jackson. “I teach alongside such talented, hardworking folks,” Morris said. “I feel honored to receive this award, not just for myself, but as a simple representative of my team.” Morris earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and master’s degree from Mississippi State University. Since 2008, he has served as an English instructor at ICC, where he has co-created World Literature I and Drama Production IV and created Writing for Publication. ICC's Hartfield, Ward selected to participate in MCCLA Jake Hartfield of Fulton, director of recruitment and orientation, and Nathan Ward of Mooreville, English instructor and supplemental instruction technician, at Itawamba Community College have been selected as participants for the 2021-22 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy. A native of Raymond, Hartfield has been director of student activities and orientation leaders sponsor since 2018. He will transition to his recruitment and orientation position July 1. His educational background includes the associate’s degree from Hinds Community College and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, where he is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in community college leadership. He currently teaches an orientation leader course at ICC. At ICC, Hartfield serves on several committees, including COVID-19 Reopening Task Force, Student Honors Selection Committee (Chair), Community Relations and Standards Committee, Commencement Committee, Strategic Planning Council, Strategic Enrollment Management Team, Student Activities Committee (chair), Academic Calendar and Enrollment Committee and College Council. ICC's Colburn to be honored at Mississippi Humanities Council Awards ceremony Christy Colburn of Amory has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2024. Colburn will be among those honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony in March 2024 at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. The event pays tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of the state’s institutions of higher learning. In her 25th year as a music educator, Colburn serves as associate band director at ICC. Her responsibilities include conducting the concert band, applied woodwind studio, mixed woodwind ensemble, Rush Hour Saxophone Quartet, CenterStage show choir and color guard director/choreographer and teaches music appreciation. As needed, she also coaches the Indianettes and the spring pom squad. A graduate of Aberdeen High School, Colburn earned the associate’s degree from ICC and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of Mississippi. MHC to honor ICC's Ward, Stevenson, Mar. 26 Itawamba Community College’s Nathan Ward of Mooreville and Jessi Stevenson of Fulton will be among statewide recipients of Mississippi Humanities Teacher Awards, which will be presented virtually, Mar. 26 at 7 p.m. Ward, who is the 2021 recipient, has been an English instructor at ICC since 2007. Stevenson, the 2020 recipient, has been employed with ICC since 2006 and is currently instructor of Fine Arts. The awards will be presented virtually and will stream over the Mississippi Humanities Council’s Facebook and YouTube channels. The Humanities Teacher Awards pay tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of Mississippi’s institutions of higher learning. Although 2020-21 came with its own new set of challenges, humanities faculty at Mississippi’s colleges and universities continue to engage in significant work in their classrooms (or home offices), nurturing students’ capacity to think critically and creatively, to evaluate points of view, synthesize information and weigh evidence. ICC's Howard to receive PTK Paragon award Bradley Howard of Saltillo, Computer Science Division chair at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a recipient of Phi Theta Kappa’s 2022 Paragon Award for New Advisers. He will be among those recognized during PTK Catalyst 2022, the society’s annual convention in Denver, Colo., Apr. 7-9. Howard, who has been employed at ICC since 2006, is sponsor for the STEM and Computer clubs and eLearning lead instructor for computer science. His committee service includes College Council, Commencement, Curriculum, eLearning, Honors Council, Instructional Policies and Planning and Assessment. Howard’s honors include Lamplighter award recipient and sponsor for ICC’s first Top 10 finalist team for the American Association of Community Colleges and National Science Foundation’s 2021 Community College Innovation Challenge. He also cowrote a $20,000 grant that ICC received to implement a STEM Club, STEM week and an Introduction to STEM Professions course.
