ICC to host MHP C..O.R.E. summer camp

Itawamba Community College will host a Mississippi Highway Patrol C.O.R.E. summer camp tailored for young detectives and aspiring law enforcement officers, July 14-17, at the Fulton Campus for students from sixth to twelfth grades.             The camp will delve into crime scene investigations, team building concepts, leadership development, obstacle course training and skills challenges with instruction from experienced professionals.             Times are 6th-9th grades, 8-11:30 a.m. and 10th-12th grades, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $100, which includes snacks and a camp shirt.             For more information or to register, contact Dr. Michelle Clouse at jmclouse@iccms.edu.

Area residents among participants in upcoming ICC Practical Nursing commencement/pinning ceremony

Several area residents from Itawamba Community College’s Practical Nursing program will participate in a commencement/pinning ceremony, July 24, at noon, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus.                 Practical Nursing graduates include Jaylen Franks, Kayli Stanford, both of Amory; Taylor Chapman of Booneville; Kaisha Guy of Columbus; Jameelah Marshall-Daniel of Eupora; Leslie Guntharp of Fulton; Lowery Taylor of Hamilton; Jermisha Harper, Kadina Pollard, both of Guntown; Cristal Aguirre of Mooreville; Cynthia Watson of New Albany; Samantha Hendricks of Oxford; Tori Washington of Pontotoc; Sherry Bentley of Shannon; Precious Gordon of Starkville; Milah Boone, Miriam Buchanan, Whitley Davis, Jordan Herring, JaShyra Jones and Amera Price, all of Tupelo.                 Practical Nursing is a one-year (three-semester) program. Upon completion, graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board examination) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dr. Lisa Pearson of Amory is the program director. Instructors include Tammy Jones of Pontotoc, Lisa McNeese of Smithville and Patricia Robbins of Mantachie.                 The public is invited.

ICC Food Management Certification class set to begin July 14 at Belden Center

 Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will begin July 14 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.                 The class will meet weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. through July 31.                 Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in the execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Tuition assistance could be available for those who qualify.                 For more information or to register, call (662) 407-1505 or email pathways@iccms.edu.

ICC to enroll new adult education students with sessions July 14, 16

    Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students in morning/afternoon and evening classes at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.), July 14.                 Registration for morning classes, which are taught Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-noon, and afternoon classes (Monday through Thursday, 1-4 p.m.) will be at 9 a.m. for individuals 18 years of age and older.                 Evening classes are taught Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m., and those 18 years of age and older can register July 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Individuals who participate in the come-and-go session should arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. Those who are 16-17 years old cannot enroll in evening classes at the Belden Center unless they bring documentation from an employer that includes a schedule that conflicts with day classes, according to Audra Perry, director of Adult Education at ICC.                 Additional classes for those 16-17 years of age are taught in Amory (Mondays and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.), Belden (Mondays through Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.), Fulton (Mondays and Tuesdays, 3:30-7:30 p.m.) and Pontotoc (Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon ...

ICC honors "best of the best" in special ceremony

Itawamba Community College’s “best of the best” were honored for their selection as recipients of the Faculty and Staff Awards of Distinction for 2024-25 during a recent special ceremony.             They include Olga Weatherford (administrative assistant to the Dean of Academic Instruction) and Mike West (Transportation Services), both of Fulton, Support Staff of the Year; Dylan Baldwin (dean of Career Education) of Pontotoc and Raphael Henry (Video Operations coordinator) of Tupelo, Professional/Administrative Staff of the Year; Beth Bowers (clinical director for Respiratory Care Technology) of Oxford, Debbie Roebuck (director of EMT/Paramedic program) of Nettleton, Faculty Member of the Year; and Heather McCormick (Mathematics division chair) of Fulton, John and Beth Cleveland Endowed Excellence in Education Outstanding Faculty Member award.             Others honored were Jessi Stevenson of Fulton, fine arts instructor, William Winter Scholar, and Megan Lewis Eidt of Tupelo, Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award winner.             The annual event also included those who are retiring at the end of the 2024-25 academic year. ICC's Davis, McMillen selected for prestigious Dept. of Defense for Research & Engineering summer internship

Recent Itawamba Community College graduates Sara Davis of Smithville and Analyse McMillen of Pontotoc are having the opportunity of a lifetime as participants in the Summer Internship Consortium Experience in Indianapolis, Ind.             The paid 11-week internship with the Department of Defense for Research & Engineering (OUSD R&E) allows Davis and McMillen to get security clearance, DoD accessor training and exposure and is an opportunity to network with industry contacts in technology. They will collaborate with industries to evaluate future technologies relating to space, land, water and air with several opportunities to travel to Washington, D.C.             The experience affords students an opportunity to utilize their STEM skills doing research in emerging technologies for the U.S. government as well as addresses the need from the federal government’s recent release of a strategic plan for advancing STEM education and cultivating STEM talent. ICC's Baldwin, Gammill complete prestigious MCCPF program

Itawamba Community College’s Dylan Baldwin of Pontotoc, dean of Career Education, and Josh Gammill of Fulton, director of Continuing Education, have recently completed the prestigious Mississippi Community College Policy Fellowship Program.                 Baldwin earned the associate’s degree from ICC, the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He joined the ICC faculty in 2013 as Collision Repair Technology instructor. His honors include 2023 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy, 2017 Mississippi Community College Board Leadership Academy, Community College representative for the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development and secretary of the Mississippi Career Technical Officers Association. Baldwin, and his wife, Monica, are the parents of a 10-year-old daughter, Mia.                 Gammill, who is director of continuing education, has been a member of the ICC family since 2015, previously serving as career navigator and pathway coordinator. Registration continues for ICC summer orientation sessions

Registration is continuing for several orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll at Itawamba Community College for the 2025 fall semester.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for June 10, June 11, July 16, all at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Campus; June 10, June 11 and July 16, all at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton Campus; and June 12 and July 15, both at 1 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. The sessions will also enable adult learners to meet with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”             ...
