ICC's Jessi Stevenson selected as 2025 William Winter Scholar

 Jessi Stevenson of Fulton, fine arts instructor, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2025.                 She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 36th Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, March 27-29.                 Stevenson currently teaches public speaking and theatre at ICC, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. Known for her creative approach to teaching in the communication classroom, Stevenson strives to incorporate weekly hands-on learning opportunities, such as pop-up speech assignments, board game days designed to enhance interpersonal engagement and yoga days focused on stress-relief and delivery techniques, all aimed at improving students’ overall podium performance.                 Stevenson has earned numerous recognitions, including the Lamplighter Award, NISOD Excellence Award, two-time Meritorious Achievement Award recipient, Humanities Teacher Award, Mississippi Communication Association Top Presenter Award, QEP Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award and multiple recognitions as an athletics faculty awardee for volleyball and basketball. Registration underway at ICC-Belden for career pathway programs

Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for three career pathway programs that will begin in February at the Belden Center.                 They include Food Management Certification, Welding and Cutting and Electrician Assistant.                 Food Management Certification will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., February 18-March 21. During the hands-on, four-week class, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Included in the curriculum are both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol certifications, menu planning preparation, assistance with and execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations. Cost is $460, but tuition assistance and scholarships are available for qualified applicants.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills in welding and cutting. The intent is to prepare students to do the very basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and businesses require. ICC initiates innovative Bloom program

With the beginning of the 2025 spring semester, Itawamba Community College has initiated an innovative Bloom program, which is for neurodivergent students who need extra support although they either have a high school diploma or certificate or looking to gain work credentials through career education.             Areas of assistance include, but are not limited to, social skills lessons, extra tutoring help with navigating college life and all Bloom support opportunities.             This week, the College announced that Andrea Hardin of Corinth has been employed as the program’s coordinator.             The Bloom Academy, which consists of a four-day orientation and customized four-semester program, focuses on developing essential life, academic and career readiness skills.             Hardin said that each student will be evaluated and transitioned to a high school equivalency path or provided enhanced assistance with daily life skills. “We will meet the students where they are and help them meet their full potential.”             One of the goals for the program, Hardin said, is to create employment-ready individuals who take great pride in their jobs/careers. “We are anticipating partnerships with area companies to ensure we ...

ICC's Eidt to present free humanities lecture, Feb. 4

Megan Lewis Eidt of Tupelo, Itawamba Community College’s 2025 Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee, will present “In Your Face History: How Technology and Mass Media Have Transformed the Study of History,” Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.             Eidt will be among those honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony, Mar. 28, at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. The event pays tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of the state’s institutions of higher learning.             Since 2004, she has taught history at ICC, where her activities have included former two-term president of the Tupelo Campus Faculty Association and former adviser to the ICC Political Science and Humanities Clubs. ICC registration continues for 2025 spring semester

Registration for the 2025 spring semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Jan. 17 for traditional full-term day and night classes.                 The last day to add eLearning first eight-week classes is Jan. 22, and eLearning full-term classes, Jan. 24. The first day of class for both eLearning full-term and eight-week classes is Jan. 21.                 Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships.                 Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are offered in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. Instructional delivery methods include face-to-face and online. Insight Luncheon showcases ICC/TPSD Middle College initiative

An Insight Luncheon, Dec. 16, at Itawamba Community College’s Belden Center showcased and highlighted its partnership with Tupelo High School and the success of its Middle College as well as recognized individuals who have been instrumental in both implementing and continuing its significant journey.             “Today we gather to celebrate an incredible partnership and program that is making a meaningful impact in our community,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “We are honored to host many distinguished guests today, including educators, administrators, community leaders and supporters who share our vision for empowering students and shaping the future. ICC schedules spring 2025 Senior College sessions

Itawamba Community College’s spring 2025 session of Senior College will kick off Jan. 15 with a presentation by Three Rivers Planning and Development District that will focus on the services they provide for individuals ages 55 and older.             According to Kelleigh Riddle, Area Agency on Aging director, the many services include Title V employment (training and locating part-time employment for eligible participants) as well as the Medicaid Waiver Division, which is a statewide program designed to offer assistance to qualified Medicaid beneficiaries. It allows qualified individuals to remain in a home- or community-based setting as an alternative to nursing facility care or other institutional care.              TRPDD services also include information and referral, Ombudsman, Homemaker and Respite and opportunities for the elderly and handicapped residents of Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties in northeast Mississippi.             “ICC’s Senior College is designed for those who are retired and looking for something fun to do,” said Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education. “The sessions offer wonderful opportunities for community members to learn more about topics specific to our ...

ICC schedules adult education enrollment/classes for January 2025

Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students in day and afternoon classes at the Belden Center, Jan. 13.                 Individuals 18 years of age and older will begin at 9 a.m., and 16-/17-year-old students, 1 p.m.                 Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.                 Day and night classes are also offered throughout the Itawamba Community College District.
