ICC, one of two in Mississippi, receives Metallica's All Within My Hands grant

All Within My Hands, the nonprofit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, has announced the largest expansion of its Metallica Scholars Initiative and its largest grant to date. With the launch of year six, 18 new colleges join the roster of existing MSI community colleges. The Metallica Scholars Initiative now has a presence in 60 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam. Itawamba Community College, which is in year two, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College represent Mississippi. ICC's Baldwin, Gammill selected as MCCPF participants

Dylan Baldwin of Pontotoc, dean of Career Education, and Josh Gammill of Fulton, director of Continuing Education, have been selected to represent Itawamba Community College as participants in the Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program.                 Baldwin earned the associate’s degree from ICC, the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He joined the ICC faculty in 2013 as Collision Repair Technology instructor. His honors include 2023 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy, 2017 Mississippi Community College Board Leadership Academy, Community College representative for the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development and secretary of the Mississippi Career Technical Officers Association. Baldwin, and his wife, Monica, are the parents of a nine-year-old daughter, Mia.                 Gammill, who is director of continuing education, has been a member of the ICC family since 2015, previously serving as career navigator and pathway coordinator. ICC's fall Senior College session to kick off Aug. 21 at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College’s fall session of Senior College will kick off Aug. 21 with a performance by Elvis Presley impersonator Jack Curtis of Tupelo and a celebration of Senior Citizens Day.             Curtis has donned the flashy white jumpsuit, reminiscent of the King of Rock and Roll, to entertain fans at various events. His renditions of Elvis classics like “Love Me Tender” have left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to witness his act. Curtis has been an Elvis Tribute Artist for more than 30 years. He won first place three consecutive years in the “Images of Elvis” regionals and finished in the top five in the finals in Memphis, Tenn. Curtis also performed with a live band and backup singers in the first Tupelo Elvis Festival in 1999. ICC formally reopens Monroe, Sheffield Halls during July 30 ceremonies

Itawamba Community College formally reopened both Monroe and Sheffield Halls during two ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Fulton Campus today (July 30).             In two weeks, residents will move into Monroe’s now single-occupancy rooms and benefit from the first of a two-phase renovation of Sheffield Hall.             “This morning, we are standing in front of one of our oldest residential facilities, Monroe Hall,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This building, which consisted of our smallest rooms, housed two students per room. With the complete renovation of this hall, we are now able to offer single occupancy rooms with a shared bathroom for every two rooms. Each floor is customizable to house separated males and females under the same roof, just like Magnolia Hall.”             The $2.2 million renovation of Monroe Hall, which first opened in 1968, was designed with students’ needs and aspirations in mind, Allen said. “The upgraded facilities provide modern amenities, increased comfort and spaces that foster community and collaboration. Six receive ICC Diagnostic Medical Sonography degrees in special ceremony

Several area residents from Itawamba Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program received their degrees at a special event, July 23, at the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus.             They include Holly Tillman of Ackerman; Madison Huppert of Amory; Madisson Dill of Corinth; Mamie Hollenhead of Louisville; Lenzi Lewis of Okolona; and Misty Taylor of Pontotoc.             Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a one-year (three-semester) program. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography examinations. Amanda Stone of Saltillo is the program director, and Daphne Jackson of Shannon, clinical coordinator.

ICC releases fall 2024 continuing education schedule

            Itawamba Community College has announced its schedule of continuing education classes for the 2024 fall semester.             The schedule, according to ICC Continuing Education director Josh Gammill, includes opportunities in several categories: hobbies and personal enjoyment, personal enrichment, professional continuing education, career pathways and senior college.              Gammill said that the class schedule includes both new opportunities as well as those that have been offered before. “We have integrated new classes such as an introduction to single board microcomputers and microcontrollers that join old favorites in the areas of art, cake decorating, photography, ACT prep, sign language and personal finance. Professional continuing education is available for EMS refreshers and engineers and surveyors as well as an extensive schedule of career pathways, or short-term courses, to prepare students for the next step. Our senior college, which began during the spring semester, continues to offer an opportunity to enable retirees to stay active in the community and engage with other participants who share the same enthusiasm and zest for life and learning as they do.”             The ...

ICC Food Management Certification class to begin Aug. 5 at Belden

Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will be offered Aug. 5-30 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.                 The class will meet weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.                 Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Tuition assistance could be available for those who qualify.                 For more information or to register, call Christy Scheuer, instructor, at (662) 407-1505 or email acscheuer@iccms.edu or pathways@iccms.edu.

Registration continues for '24 fall semester at ICC

Registration is continuing for the 2024 fall semester at Itawamba Community College. Entering freshmen, transfer, returning or students who are being readmitted can register at the Advising Centers at either the Fulton or Tupelo campus from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday through August 13. Locations are the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus and the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus. In addition, ICC has scheduled open registration opportunities, Aug. 14, 15 and 16.             Options include Aug. 14 from 1-5 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; Aug. 15 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the Fulton Campus and 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on the Tupelo Campus; and Aug. 16 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Locations are the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus and the David C.
