ICC formally opens newly-renovated Student Activities Center at the Fulton Campus

Itawamba Community College reopened its Student Activities Center with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony, Aug. 14, at the Fulton Campus.             “It is with great pride and excitement that we gather to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Student Activities Center,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen.  “Just as with our recent residence hall ribbon cuttings at Monroe and Sheffield Halls, this is not just a physical transformation but a renewal of our commitment to providing a vibrant and supportive campus environment for our students.”  ICC’s approximately 13,000-square-foot Student Activities Center, which opened in 1961 and the oldest building on the Fulton Campus, has had numerous facelifts over the years, but this renovation touched every aspect of the building, including a completely redesigned interior to maximize open space for seating and the addition of a new covered space on the back to provide students a place to dine in the event of inclement weather. ICC schedules pathways classes to begin Sept. 10 at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College has scheduled several pathways classes to begin Sept. 10 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Electrician Assistant, Sept. 10-Oct. 10, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.; Small Engine Repair, Sept. 10-Nov. 7, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.; and Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Sept. 10-Oct. 10, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. Electrician Assistant provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential writing. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Small Engine Repair Technician enables students to prepare for a career as they develop small engine repair skills, and upon completion, they will be equipped for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair business or to open their own related business.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills and to prepare them to do basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. ICC receives AACC grant to support National Voter Registration Day event

Itawamba Community College has received a grant from the American Association of Community Colleges to host an event to support National Voter Registration Day.             The $2,700 grant will be used to engage students in voter registration, according to Nathan Ward, director of Instructional Support Services, who along with Lynn Millender, Social Science division chair, submitted the application.             “For several years, our Social Science Division has coordinated our annual Constitution Day event at ICC, and many of those focused on voter registration,” Millender said. “With this award from AACC, this year we will have an opportunity to impact students on both the ICC Fulton and Tupelo campuses as well as the Belden Center by participating in National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 17. In addition, we plan to launch a social media campaign and provide printed material that will help students better navigate the entire voting process,” she continued. “Organizations such as ICC’s Humanities Club, elected Circuit Clerks in counties within the college’s service district (Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc) and ICC’s faculty and staff will all work together ...

Join ICC's Alumni Association and for a limited time, receive a free Mississippi custom car license plate

Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for Mississippi residents, especially its alumni, to share its message through displaying a custom car license plate.             For a limited time, residents of the state can join ICC’s Alumni Association for a $20 yearly membership fee, and receive the license plate free of charge, according to Michael Upton, director of Advancement.             Incoming ICC Alumni Association President Joey Cox of Fulton has already ordered a tag to support the College. “I am very proud of my association with ICC and enjoyed my time spent here. I look for opportunities to show my ICC pride and think our specialty ICC car tag is a great way to express that pride.”             Karen McFerrin of Mantachie, past Alumni Association president and current board member, agrees. “I can’t think of a better way to show support for the college I love than displaying an ICC tag on my car. Registration continues for ICC adult education classes

Registration for both day and night adult education classes is continuing throughout the Itawamba Community College district.                 The class schedule includes                 Amory – WIN Job Center (1619 Highland Drive), Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.;                 Belden – ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.), Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 4:30-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday, 8 am.-3:30 p.m.;                 Fulton – ICC (Academic Building rooms 212, 217), Monday and Tuesday, 3:30-7:30 p.m.; and                 Pontotoc – WIN Job Center (316 Coffee St.), Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.                 There is no cost for the classes.                 Belden Center evening courses and all WIN Job Centers offer open continuous enrollment.                 GED® and HiSET® testing is continuing on a weekly basis, and all program-enrolled students take the GED® or HiSET® free of charge. ICC, one of two in Mississippi, receives Metallica's All Within My Hands grant

All Within My Hands, the nonprofit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, has announced the largest expansion of its Metallica Scholars Initiative and its largest grant to date. With the launch of year six, 18 new colleges join the roster of existing MSI community colleges. The Metallica Scholars Initiative now has a presence in 60 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam. Itawamba Community College, which is in year two, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College represent Mississippi. ICC's Baldwin, Gammill selected as MCCPF participants

Dylan Baldwin of Pontotoc, dean of Career Education, and Josh Gammill of Fulton, director of Continuing Education, have been selected to represent Itawamba Community College as participants in the Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program.                 Baldwin earned the associate’s degree from ICC, the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He joined the ICC faculty in 2013 as Collision Repair Technology instructor. His honors include 2023 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy, 2017 Mississippi Community College Board Leadership Academy, Community College representative for the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development and secretary of the Mississippi Career Technical Officers Association. Baldwin, and his wife, Monica, are the parents of a nine-year-old daughter, Mia.                 Gammill, who is director of continuing education, has been a member of the ICC family since 2015, previously serving as career navigator and pathway coordinator. ICC's fall Senior College session to kick off Aug. 21 at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College’s fall session of Senior College will kick off Aug. 21 with a performance by Elvis Presley impersonator Jack Curtis of Tupelo and a celebration of Senior Citizens Day.             Curtis has donned the flashy white jumpsuit, reminiscent of the King of Rock and Roll, to entertain fans at various events. His renditions of Elvis classics like “Love Me Tender” have left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to witness his act. Curtis has been an Elvis Tribute Artist for more than 30 years. He won first place three consecutive years in the “Images of Elvis” regionals and finished in the top five in the finals in Memphis, Tenn. Curtis also performed with a live band and backup singers in the first Tupelo Elvis Festival in 1999. ICC formally reopens Monroe, Sheffield Halls during July 30 ceremonies

Itawamba Community College formally reopened both Monroe and Sheffield Halls during two ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Fulton Campus today (July 30).             In two weeks, residents will move into Monroe’s now single-occupancy rooms and benefit from the first of a two-phase renovation of Sheffield Hall.             “This morning, we are standing in front of one of our oldest residential facilities, Monroe Hall,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This building, which consisted of our smallest rooms, housed two students per room. With the complete renovation of this hall, we are now able to offer single occupancy rooms with a shared bathroom for every two rooms. Each floor is customizable to house separated males and females under the same roof, just like Magnolia Hall.”             The $2.2 million renovation of Monroe Hall, which first opened in 1968, was designed with students’ needs and aspirations in mind, Allen said. “The upgraded facilities provide modern amenities, increased comfort and spaces that foster community and collaboration.
