Food Management Certification class set to begin Sept. 9 at ICC-Belden

                Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will be offered Sept. 9-October 4 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.                 The class will meet weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.                 Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Tuition assistance could be available for those who qualify.                 For more information or to register, call Christy Scheuer, instructor, at (662) 407-1505 or email pathways@iccms.edu.

Campbell, Montgomery receive MAACE Students of the Year awards

Itawamba Community College Adult Education graduates Cristal Campbell of Tremont and Rosalyn Montgomery of Plantersville have been selected as Students of the Year for 2023-24 by the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education.             Montgomery, wife, mother, grandmother and family matriarch, passed her high school equivalency exam at the age of 68, less than a month after her birthday. She had to drop out of school at the age of 12 to care for her brothers and sisters while her parents worked. Over many years, she attended adult education classes, and she made a promise to her mother and herself that she would not give up, despite a medical condition that proves difficult for her to read for extended periods of time. “I wanted to complete something I started,” Montgomery said upon passing the high school equivalency test. “I wanted to be a role model and show people that if you put in the time and work, you will be victorious.” Her teacher and nominator for the award Shundria Whitfield said, “Not only did Mrs. Montgomery come to class daily, ...

ICC's Bowers receives 10-year service pin from Phi Theta Kappa

Jenny Bowers of Tupelo, English instructor and Phi Theta Kappa adviser for the Beta Tau Sigma chapter at Itawamba Community College, has been honored by the society for 10-years of service.                 “We at Phi Theta Kappa owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our chapter advisers whose dedicated service is responsible for the success of our local chapters,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. “Advisers are truly the lifeblood of our organization, and we are delighted to recognize them for their years of service. On your Tupelo Campus, we are proud to honor Jenny Bowers for 10 years of service as adviser of the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter.”                 Bowers joined the ICC faculty in 2002 as an adjunct instructor and became full-time in 2011. ICC schedules fall 2024 Preparing for the ACT sessions

The Itawamba Community College Continuing Education Department has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT during the 2024 fall semester. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 Math and science sessions include Sept. 7, Oct. 19 and Dec. 7.  English and reading are offered Oct. 12 and Nov. 9.                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required. ICC's Perry selected state MAACE Administrator of Year

Audra L. Perry of Pontotoc, director of Adult Education at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education Eloise Richardson Administrator of the Year award.             Perry joined ICC’s Adult Education department as director in August 2022. She began her professional career in 2011 at Mississippi Delta Community College, serving as lead counselor, interim Dean of Career-Technical and Adult Education and director of Advising. She was selected to participate in the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy and Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program.             One of Perry’s nominators for the award said, “In a brief time, Mrs. Perry has found a way to bring change. She stepped into a role, and I know it has not always been easy for her, especially at a time when multiple positions had to be filled. ICC Foundation Board adds three new members

Three new members have been elected to the board of directors of the Itawamba Community College Foundation, Inc.                 They include Brad Stevens of Smithville; Lee Tucker of Tupelo; and Liz Weseli of Amory.                 Stevens serves as Regional Executive Officer/Business Development for Community Bank of Mississippi and current director for its board of directors. His previous positions include division president, executive vice president and senior vice president, all with Community Bank of North Mississippi; and vice president, assistant vice president/loan officer and internal auditor, Security Bank of Amory. Stevens, an honor graduate of Smithville High School, earned the associate’s degree from ICC where he was a member of the Hall of Fame and Student Body president; and the bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. He is also a graduate of both the Louisiana State University and Mississippi State University Schools of Banking. Fall 2024 registration continues at ICC

Registration for the 2024 fall semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Aug. 23 for traditional full-term day and night classes.                  The last day to add eLearning first eight-week classes is Aug. 27, and eLearning full-term classes, Aug. 30. The first day of class for both eLearning full-term and eight-week classes is Aug. 26.                 Financial aid is available, as well as adult learner scholarships.                 Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. Instructional delivery methods include face-to-face and online. OnlineU selects ICC as 2024 Best Online Community College in Mississippi for affordability

Itawamba Community College has been selected the 2024 Best Online Community College in Mississippi for affordability by OnlineU.             “Mississippi offers many online degrees through its network of online community colleges,” said representatives of OnlineU. “These online degrees combine convenience with strong academic standards while maintaining low tuition costs for budget-minded students.”             ICC takes the top spot for its affordability with an annual tuition of $2,750, placing it among the most cost-effective schools in the country, according to OnlineU. ICC to host free Red Zone Tailgate, Sept. 5

Itawamba Community College will host a free Red Zone Tailgate, Sept. 5, prior to the Indians’ home-opener football game with Pearl River.             The schedule includes 4 p.m., Indian Spirit Walk (cheer the football team on their way to Lambert Stadium); 5 p.m., cookout sponsored by ICC’s Alumni and Foundation with Kids’ Zone activities; 6:30 p.m., pregame Freshman Run; and 7 p.m., kickoff at Eaton Field. Sophomore members of the ICC football team and cheerleaders will be recognized during the pregame activities, and members of the All-American Band, at halftime.             All pregame events are free and open to the public.             Additional pregame events scheduled during home football games include Sept. 12, ICC vs. East Central, All-American Heroes Night; Sept. 26, ICC vs. Mississippi Delta, ICC Jamboree (music and art festival) and Oct. 31, ICC vs. Northwest, Choptoberfest.
