ICC's Health Sciences Division to host Code Blue and Red event for students from 12 area schools

Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 8:30 a.m.-noon, Feb. 10, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Students from 12 area schools will be on campus in two shifts (8:30 and 10:15 a.m.) to view simulations of three real-life scenarios, said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said, “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Sciences, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Public Health, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology. Apr. 1 deadline for ICC Foundation scholarship applications

            Apr. 1 is the deadline for submission of online applications for scholarships offered by the Itawamba Community College Foundation, Inc.             A list of scholarships with complete descriptions and an online application are available at www.iccms.edu/foundationscholarships.             Foundation scholarships are established and privately funded for ICC students by individuals, businesses, industries and organizations.             For more information on the application process or scholarship endowment, contact Michael Upton at maupton@iccms.edu or (662) 862-8035 or foundation@iccms.edu.

ICC schedules Preparing for the ACT sessions

            The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.             Math and science sessions include Feb. 4, Apr. 1 and May 20. English and reading are offered Apr. 8 and June 3.             ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.             The cost is $50 per session.             Preregistration is required. Registration open for upcoming ICC Pathways classes

Registration is underway for several pathways classes that will begin soon at Itawamba Community College. They include Residential Wiring, Small Engine Repair Technician and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Residential Wiring meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Mar. 9. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use. Small Engine Repair Technician meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Apr. 6. Upon successful completion of the 16-session program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair shop or to open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination. Spring semester registration continues through Jan. 13

Registration for the 2023 spring semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Jan. 13 for traditional full-term day and night classes in the Advising Centers on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., weekdays, in the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus and Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus.             Traditional full-term day and first eight-week classes begin Jan. 9; and eLearning full-term and first eight-week classes, Jan. 17. The last day to add eLearning first eight-week classes is Jan. 18, and eLearning full-term classes, Jan. 20.             Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships.             Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. Instructional delivery methods include face-to-face and online. Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in January.             They include January 9 –Certified Nursing Assistant (Mondays/Wednesdays, 5-9 p.m. through March 22); January 10 – EMT-Basic (Tuesdays/Thursdays, 5-10 p.m., through May 4); Pharmacy Technician (Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m., through May 2); January 17 – Food Service Pathway (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., through February 10); January 23 – Business Office Specialist, (Mondays/Thursdays, 5-9 p.m., through May 18); Google IT Support Certificate (online, self-paced, through May 18); and Medical Administrative Assistant (Mondays, 5-9 p.m. plus additional online assignments, through April 26).             For more information or to register, contact Stephanie Kitchens, Pathway Coordinator, at srkitchens@iccms.edu or call (662) 407-1537.

ICC joins in providing new option to earn High School Equivalency Diploma

New High School Equivalency Option Available in Mississippi Mississippians who have dropped out of high school have a new option to earn their High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma, TotalTranscript® offered by DiplomaSender. TotalTranscript® allows those who have previously taken portions of the GED, HiSET or TASC to combine test scores in order to earn an HSE Diploma.  Prior to TotalTranscript®, students were required to take and pass the entire battery of individual tests to earn an HSE Diploma. “Across the state, there are more than 300,000 Mississippians without a high school diploma, and oftentimes these individuals are not able to access postsecondary educational opportunities or secure gainful employment,” said Kell Smith, interim executive director of the Mississippi Community College Board.  “TotalTranscript® is a great option for those who may have begun the process of earning an HSE Diploma but have not yet been able to finish the process.  A high school diploma opens countless doors throughout life, and I am excited about this new option.”  Itawamba Community College President Dr. Jay Allen concurs. “According to recent statistics, approximately 331,000 Mississippians do not ...

Itawamba Community College has scheduled open registration for the 2023 spring semester.             Options include Jan. 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the Fulton Campus and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on the Tupelo Campus; and Jan. 6 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. ICC sets special orientation session for Dec. 2022 graduates

December 2022 graduates who enroll at Itawamba Community College for the 2023 spring semester will have an opportunity to register during a special orientation session, Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. at the Tupelo Campus.             “Orientation for December graduates is a valuable first step toward a successful college career, and ICC offers it at no cost to provide the best start for our students,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. It is an opportunity for students to learn about ICC, schedule their classes, take their ID photo and begin to prepare for the college transition. Area graduates can register now at www.iccms.edu/orientation.
