Ashley Charitable Foundation donates $500,000 to ICC's Commercial Truck Driving program

Itawamba Community College’s Commercial Truck Driving program will benefit from a $500,000 donation from the Ashley Charitable Foundation (ACF), a nonprofit organization founded by Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC and committed to supporting education and workforce development, presented this afternoon at the Tupelo Campus. Among those participating in the event were Ron Wanek, Founder and Chairman of Ashley Furniture Industries, and Dr. Jay Allen, President of Itawamba Community College. The presentation also included a special congratulatory video by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves. This contribution marks ACF's continued dedication to partnering with higher education institutions to drive growth in the workforce.             Itawamba Community College is conducting an interest survey for Commercial Truck Driving.             If you are interested in learning more about the program or enrolling, click on this link to complete the survey…www.iccms.edu/CTDinterest.             ICC’s CTD program prepares individuals to drive Class A semitrucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough knowledge of log books, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.             Options include four weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., or eight-week classes and eight-week internship.             Enrollment requirements include U.S. citizen or Puerto Rico valid driver’s license; copy of good driving record; acceptable driving record with no more than two speeding tickets in the previous three years and no DUIs or DWUIs in the previous five years; pass DOT physical and drug screening ...

ICC schedules Food Management Certification class

Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will begin October 16 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class will meet Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. through November 10.             Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations.             Tuition assistance could be available for those who qualify.             For more information or to register, call instructor Christy Scheuer at (662) 407-1505 or email acscheuer@iccms.edu or pathways@iccms.edu.

Itawamba Community College joins national initiative on College Cost Transparency

            Itawamba Community College has joined the College Cost Transparency Initiative, a coalition of more than 360 higher education institutions that have voluntarily committed to follow a set of principles and standards that ensure transparency, clarity and understanding around student financial aid offers, which was announced this week.             Together, these institutions serve more than 3.5 million college students in the United States.             “Choosing to attend college is one of the most significant financial aid decisions a student or family can make,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “Knowing how much it will cost up front is crucial, and ICC is committed to providing students clear and accurate financial information. We are proud to be a partner in this work.”             The monumental commitment comes as lawmakers, think tanks and government entities continue to scrutinize the financial aid offers that colleges and universities present to students. ICC eight-week traditional, eLearning class registration continues

Registration for eight-week traditional and eLearning classes is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The deadline to register is Oct. 12 for the traditional term and Oct. 17 for the eLearning (online) session. Traditional classes begin Oct. 11, and online, Oct. 16.             ICC offers academic, career education, workforce and eLearning classes. Apply NOW for free welding class made possible by Metallica's foundation, All Within My Hands

            A free class in welding, which begins at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center, Oct. 11, is possible due to a grant this summer from Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands.             The class will meet for one eight-week term, and the curriculum includes introduction to welding I and introduction to STEM.             During the second phase, which begins Jan. 8, the students will take shielded metal arc welding and two fully-online classes in entrepreneurship and principles of marketing.             Among the schools, which applied for the grant, ICC was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000 to transform the futures of students in the community.             For more information on enrolling in the Oct. 11 welding class, contact Dylan Baldwin, dean of career education, at 662.407.1414 or email dcbaldwin@iccms.edu.

ICC leads state in full-time enrollment increase

            Itawamba Community College ranks first in the state in full-time enrollment increase and in the top three in overall enrollment increase, according to figures recently released by the Mississippi Community College Board.             With fall enrollment at 5,034 at the end of the 10-day reporting period, figures from fall 22 to fall 23 show an 8.5 percent increase.             The increase can be attributed to multiple factors, according to ICC President Dr. Jay Allen, including the addition of Magnolia Hall, a state-of-the-art residence for honors students and student leaders accommodating 246 additional students which opened last fall and an enhanced emphasis on activities.             “This is very exciting news,” Allen said. “The increase in the number of students that ICC is serving is significant because we have additional opportunities to provide a solid educational foundation and the best start for those in our five-county district and beyond.”             “Statistics show that the more students are engaged, the more successful they will be in the classroom,” according to ICC Vice President of Student Services Dr. Brad Boggs. “Having an attractive, comprehensive student activities ...

Chandler, Lyons receive MAMA scholarships

          With the announcement of Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association's 2023-24 Scholarship Recipients, MAMA's scholarship fund that has supported 205 students enrolled in Mississippi community colleges and universities reached a total of $407,500 awarded since 2006.           Selected from Itawamba Community College include Quen'Darrius "Que" Chandler and Julius Lyons, both of Houston, sophomores in Industrial Maintenance and participants in the Advanced Manufacturing Technician program at Toyota Mississippi.           Chandler wrote in his essay, "I am currently working at the Toyota plant in Blue Springs, where I am experiencing real-world maintenance training. I am hardworking and dedicated to becoming more knowledgeable about the automotive manufacturing industry, and I desire to improve it in any way that I can within my company and the industry as a whole.           His group leader at Toyota Mississippi recognized Que's commitment in his letter of recommendation. ICC schedules Preparing for the ACT sessions

               The Itawamba Community College Continuing Education Department has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT during the 2023 fall semester. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.                 Math and science sessions include Oct. 21 and Dec. 2. English and reading are offered Oct. 14 and Nov. 18.                 ICC’s ACT prep instructors use three intensive classroom review methods in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving test-day performance and scores. Those methods include a review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “studying smart.” Those who are enrolled have an opportunity to pre-test early and post-test later in the class using full-length ACT practice tests to measure performance and practice for the testing dates. Students must bring their books to all sessions.                 The cost is $50 per session.                 Preregistration is required. ICC's Sept. 28 Fall Preview Day designed for high school seniors

High school seniors will have an opportunity to learn about Itawamba Community College during its Fall Preview Day, which is scheduled for September 28 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Fulton Campus.                 Fall Preview Day attendees will also have free admission for the ICC/Northwest football game at Eaton Field, beginning with a tailgate at 5:30 p.m.                 They can select from up to two information sessions about ICC’s schools of academics, health science and career education, and participants will hear directly from faculty within the areas. They can choose which schools to attend based on a selected major through the registration link. Attendees will also receive information on involvement at ICC, financial aid/scholarships, housing and residence life, Phi Theta Kappa and honors.
