ICC's Gammill, Gray selected for prestigious MCCLA Itawamba Community College’s Josh Gammill and Holly Gray, both of Fulton, have been selected as participants in the 2023-24 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy. Gammill, who is director of continuing education, has been a member of the ICC family since 2015, previously serving as career navigator and pathway coordinator. He earned the bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and the master’s degree from the University of Mississippi. Gammill’s honors include graduate of the ICC Leadership Development Institute, successful completion of DDI Leadership Facilitator Training, Certified Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and Certified Career Pathways Leadership (NCPN). He is a deacon of Bethel Baptist Church. Gammill and his wife, Sara, are the parents of three children, Reed, Nora and Charlie. ICC schedules orientation sessions for Dec. graduates Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2024 spring semester. High school students who graduate in December are highly encouraged to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Nov. 16 at the Academic and Student Center at the Tupelo Campus and Nov. 30 at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus at 1 p.m. each day. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend in the spring. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited. “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. “The sessions will also provide an opportunity for adult learners to connect with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.” During the spring semester, students may choose from several instructional delivery methods, including online, face-to-face and hybrid. ... ICC to honor All-American Heroes, Oct. 26 Both past and current members of the armed forces, first responders and healthcare professionals will be honored during Itawamba Community College’s All-American Heroes Night, Oct. 26, at Lambert Stadium/Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus during ICC’s football game with East Mississippi Community College, which begins at 7 p.m. Special activities will include a salute during halftime featuring ICC’s All-American Band. Admission is free to all past and current armed forces members and healthcare professionals, first responders and their families. Beginning at 5 p.m., activities such as Touch a Truck with military, healthcare and first responder vehicles will feature fire, police and an Army Humvee. There will also be a free Kids Zone. 'Curious Narratives' exhibit extended to Nov. 16 The paintings of Brooke Polly Alexander of Oxford, instructional assistant professor of art at the University of Mississippi, will be on display in the Itawamba Community College gallery on the Fulton Campus through Nov. 16. Entitled “Curious Narratives,” the exhibition features a collection of oil paintings on canvas from her recent show at Southside Gallery in Oxford. Her work deals with figurative and landscape motifs with an underlying implication of a story. The narration is implied but not explicitly stated. Alexander leaves it to the viewer to bring to the paintings their own interpretation of her images. Alexander was born and raised in Athens, Ala. She earned the B.A. degree in studio art with a minor in English from Athens State University and the M.F.A. degree in studio art with a concentration in painting from the University of Mississippi. ICC to host Emerging Scholars Luncheon, Nov. 2 High school seniors with a 24+ ACT score will be honored during Itawamba Community College’s Emerging Scholars Luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m., Nov. 2, at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. “The event is an opportunity for the select group of high school seniors to learn more about the academic and involvement opportunities for honor students at ICC,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. The schedule includes check in from 10:45-11 a.m. followed by lunch and sessions focusing on the accelerated academic experience, Phi Theta Kappa and Honors College, special guest speaker ICC alumnus Karis Pannell and a question-and-answer session by a student leaders panel. Registration underway for three ICC continuing education classes that begin soon at the Belden Center Registration is continuing for several continuing education classes that begin soon at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. They include Autoimmune Nutrition, Oct. 12; and Beginning Cake Decorating and Basic Computer Skills, both Oct. 16. Autoimmune Nutrition, which meets Thursday nights for six weeks from 6-7:30 p.m., includes tailoring the diet to manage an overactive immune system, the definition of autoimmune disorder, dealing with increased sugar consumption and foods that heal. Cost is $45. Basic Computer Skills is for the computer operator beginner. Included are basic operation instruction, Microsoft Word and such functions as email. No keyboarding will be taught in the class which meets Mondays and Tuesdays for four weeks. The cost is $85. Beginning Cake Decorating meets each Monday night for four weeks. Mid-South bands to participate in Tomahawk Marching Band Championship at ICC Bands from across the Mid-South will participate in Itawamba Community College’s Tomahawk Marching Band Championship, Oct. 14, at Eaton Field/Butch Lambert Stadium at the Fulton Campus. Competition will begin at 10:15 a.m. The event will provide an opportunity for bands across the Mid-South to perform in both a competitive and educational environment. Adjudicators from across the nation will critique bands, color guard and percussion with the same caption-based criteria used in the MHSAA State Marching Band Championships, according to ICC All-American Band Director Ryan Todd.
