ICC schedules adult education orientation/enrollment sessions for July 10 Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students at the Belden Center during two orientation sessions on July 10. The first, which is at 9 a.m., will be for individuals who are 16- or 17-years old; and the second, at 1 p.m., will include those who are 18 and older. Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden. Day and evening classes are offered at ICC-Belden as well as in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties. There is no cost for the classes. The ESL program, Belden Center evening courses and all WIN Job Centers offer open, continuous enrollment. GED and HiSET testing is continuing on a weekly basis, and all program-enrolled students take the GED or HiSET free of charge. ICC revamps Precision Machining Technology program, introduces one-year Associate of Applied Science dgreee Itawamba Community College has revamped its Precision Machining Technology program, transitioning it from two years to a streamlined one-year Associate of Applied Science degree opportunity, beginning this fall. The newly revised program will equip students with essential skills and knowledge through a carefully designed curriculum, ensuring that they are well-prepared for rewarding careers in the field of precision machining, according to Dylan Baldwin, director of Career Education. The three-semester program will enable students to graduate in July 2024. Upon completion of the program, they will receive a 45-hour certificate, demonstrating their mastery of precision machining techniques. The revised program incorporates several new classes to enhance students’ understanding and proficiency in precision machining. ICC, TPSD sign MOU for innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program to begin this fall Itawamba Community College and the Tupelo Public School District signed a memorandum of understanding today to announce the innovative Associate Degree Nursing Preferred Candidacy Middle College program, which will begin this fall. The agreement, which was signed by ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and TPSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Picou in a formal ceremony, will promote early entry into the two-year nursing program. Qualified applicants will begin this track in their junior year. “Graduating seniors are often attracted to the idea of ‘going away’ to experience the first year of college,” Allen said. “Many of those graduates return home for various reasons and do not have a degree. ICC's Bowers selected as Transfer Partner Representative for PTK Regional Advisory Board Jenny Bowers of Tupelo, English instructor at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as Transfer Partner Representative of the Phi Theta Kappa Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Advisory Board for 2023-25. “Serving on the advisory board helps our region and our students as we plan events and help train regional officers,” Bowers said. In her new position, Bowers will liaise with universities to help make transferring seamless for PTK students. The Advisory Board works with regional coordinators to plan events for the Mississippi/Louisiana region of PTK. Upcoming events include the Regional Honors Institute in Meridian, June 19-21, and the Regional Leadership Conference hosted by Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Sept. 7-8. ICC's Stevenson begins two-year term as MFSACC president Jessi Stevenson of Fulton, Fine Arts instructor at Itawamba Community College, has been elected as president of the Mississippi Faculty and Staff Association of Community Colleges. The Bruce native, who has been employed with ICC since 2006, teaches public speaking and theatre courses and serves as the sponsor of Communication Chiefs and the college’s Study Abroad program, The Global Experience. During her 17 years at ICC, Stevenson has received an extensive list of honors, including the NISOD award, Lamplighter, Humanities Teacher of the Year, multiple QEP Outstanding Faculty Mentor awards and the College’s highest honor, the Meritorious Achievement Award, twice. Stevenson has served as both president and vice president of the Fulton Campus Faculty and Staff Association multiple times. ICC's Holloway completes prestigious Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program Itawamba Community College’s Michael Holloway of Saltillo, director of recruiting and orientation, is among the 2023 graduates of the Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program. Holloway, who is a native of Amory, attended Itawamba Community College on a soccer scholarship. His educational background includes the associate’s degree from ICC and the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. He has worked in higher education for 15 years, all in enrollment management. Before joining the ICC staff 11 years ago, Holloway was a regional admissions counselor for the University of Mississippi for four years. He and his wife, Erin, a teacher for the Tupelo Public School district, are the parents of three children, Emma, 10; Bennett, 6, and baby John Michael. Registration continues for ICC summer orientation sessions Registration is continuing at Itawamba Community College for orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2023 fall semester. Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for June 13 and 15 and July 11 and 13, all at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., all at the Fulton Campus; and June 14 at 1 p.m. and July 12 at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., all at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend.
