ICC to offer Beginning Cake Decorating

Registration is underway for Beginning Cake Decorating, which begins May 1 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Classes will meet Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m. for five weeks.             Highlights include the basic skills of icing, bordering and flower-making, including roses.             Cost is $100, which includes a decorating supply kit to keep.             For more information, email continuingeducation@iccms.edu or call (662) 407-1500.

May 1 is application deadline for ICC health science programs

May 1 is the deadline for the submission of applications for health science programs at Itawamba Community College.             They include associate degree nursing, diagnostic medical sonography, health information technology, licensed practical nursing (August class), occupational therapy assistant technology, physical therapist assistant technology, public health technology, radiologic technology, respiratory care technology and surgical technology.             For more information about program requirements, access ICC’s website at www.iccms.edu or call (662) 620-5239.

Mississippi Painters Society art currently on display in ICC Gallery

A collection of paintings by the Mississippi Painters Society is currently on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Gallery on the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The exhibit consists of 35 works in watercolor, oil, acrylic and mixed media. Subject matter ranges from still life to landscapes and portraits to abstract art. Members of the MSP include Shirley Hill, Rhonda Grammer, Alfred Jones, Karen Jones, John Armistead, Jerry Jones, Jane Sutton, Daphne Works, all of Tupelo; Lee Waltress, Robbie Boyd, both of Pontotoc; Elizabeth and Vernon Chase, both of Baldwyn; Sarah Beckham of Belden and Melissa Byrd of Fulton. Almost all works are for sale. The exhibit will continue to May 5. Admission is free. ICC's Logan selected as Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship semifinalist

Itawamba Community College sophomore Emma Logan of Fulton has been selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Logan is majoring in psychology. Her activities and honors include member of the ICC soccer team, Honors College, Sigma Kappa Delta, Phi Theta Kappa officer, Supplemental Instructor for English, President’s List, Communications Division award recipient and Creative Writing Competition Literary Essay category award winner. Logan has also been recognized by PTK as a member of the Distinguished Officer Team. She attends The Orchard in Tupelo. She will transfer to the University of Mississippi with plans to earn a master’s degree in psychology and later apply to the FBI Academy. Her parents are Greg and Kelly Deakle.             The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly-selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at for-year colleges or universities. Auditions for the 2023-24 Itawamba Community College All-American Band have been scheduled for 9 a.m., Apr. 15, at the Fulton Campus.             They include Color Guard, Drum Major and Indianettes. ICC students place in SKD creative writing competiton

              Several Itawamba Community College students have placed in the Sigma Kappa Delta chapter's creative writing competition.             They include Dixie Owens of Amory, third place in poetry for “Staring;” second place in short story for “Good Morning” and third place in short story for “Hide and Seek;” Emma Logan of Fulton, first place in literary essay for “Literature and Disney Classics;” Sydney Freeman of Houston, honorable mention in poetry for “Tamagotchi;” Madeline Comer of Mantachie, first place in poetry for “Just Pictures;” Emory Reinhard of Mantachie, honorable mention in short story for “Deborah and Candice;” Adam Harmon of Nettleton, first place in short story for “Amidst Butterflies and Crows;” Anna Maldonado of Nettleton, first place in essay (creative nonfiction) for “Tied up with Twins;” Kent Humphries of Vina, Ala., first place in drama for “Nun with a Gun;” and Mackenzie Sneed of Thaxton, second place in poetry for “Ink.”             They will be recognized during SKD’s induction ceremony, Apr. 17 at 6 p.m. at the W.O. ICC schedules Legal Studies Day

            Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for a Legal Studies Day scheduled for Apr. 14 at the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus.             High school seniors are invited to explore the opportunities available through ICC’s School of Legal Studies, according to Dr. Michelle Sumerel, vice president of instructional services.             Interactive demonstrations will highlight opportunities in criminal justice, pre-law, paralegal and political science.             Check-in is scheduled for 9-9:30 a.m.             For more information or to register, email jmsumerel@iccms.edu or call (662) 862-8050.

Registration underway for Fundamentals of Restaurant Startup class at ICC-Belden

           Registration is underway for a Fundamentals of Restaurant Startup class that will begin soon at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class meets three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 1-3 p.m. for two weeks.             Included are general startup/finance (success rates, common mistakes, restaurant types and financials), menu and pricing, brick and mortar vs. food truck (ownership types, lease vs. purchase, permits and inspections), employee training and hiring (interviewing, onboarding, customer service), leadership and management and social media/business plan (marketing).             The fee is $150.             For more information or to register, contact instructor Christy Scheuer at (662) 407-1505 or email acscheuer@iccms.edu or pathways@iccms.edu.
