ICC's Guntharp named Mississippi Community College Connectivity Consortium chairman

            Jason Guntharp of Fulton, system engineer/project manager at Itawamba Community College, has been recently named chairman of the Mississippi Community College Connectivity Consortium (MC4).             MC4 is the evolution of the state’s Computer Center Director’s Association, now known as MJCCCDA, which was formed on Dec. 10, 1986. Its purpose is to collaborate and share solutions to problems that affected all colleges as well as the catalyst for a computer network to connect all of the two-year colleges.             The Strategic Planning Council, which was the first IT technical group, evolved into MC4. Today, the organization represents community colleges from across the state and confronts the technology challenges that affect every community college, Guntharp said. “It is an honor to lead and be part of a group with such a rich history in the state. ICC's Allen, Atkins accepted into prestigious Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program

Itawamba Community College sophomores Emma Grace Allen of Fulton and Payton Atkins of Hamilton have been accepted into the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP).             The MRPSP offers scholarships to medical students in Mississippi who agree to practice in underserved rural areas of Mississippi after completing their training for one year for each year they receive the scholarship. Participants will receive mentoring, rural clinical experience, MCAT preparation and a support system on their pathway to becoming a physician. As part of the MRPSP, they join a network of undergraduate students, medical students, residents and practicing physicians, all offering support throughout their medical education and into their future practice.             Allen is a biology major at ICC, where she will receive her associate’s degree this month. Her honors and activities include orientation leader, Global Experience, Food Pantry representative, Indian Delegation president, BSU lead team member, Fashion Tribe, STEM Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors College, Science Club, Miss ICC 2023, Hall of Fame 2023 and freshman and sophomore Homecoming maid. ICC schedules Forklift Operator Training class, June 1

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a Forklift Operator Training class, which will meet June 1 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.             Highlights include OSHA safety instruction, forklift simulator practice, safety check protocol and hands-on driving, loading and unloading operation. The class is limited to seven participants. ICC to host multiple commencement ceremonies

Itawamba Community College will host multiple traditional commencement ceremonies at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus, May 12.             They include Associate of Arts (Last Name A-I), Associate of Applied Science and Certificates, Career Education programs and Middle College, 10 a.m.; Associate of Arts (Last Name J-Z), 2 p.m. and Associate of Applied Science and Certificates, Health Science programs, 5 p.m.             In addition, an Adult Education commencement ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m., May 11.             The public is invited to attend. No tickets are required.

ICC students, faculty among Mississippi Community College Creative Writers Association competition winners

Itawamba Community College students and faculty were among the winners in the 2023 Mississippi Community College Creative Writers Association competition.             They include Kent Humphries of Vina, Ala., first place in dramatic writing for “Nun with a Gun;” Emma Logan of Fulton, second place in literary essay for “Literature and Disney Classics;” editor-in-chief Shawn Whittington of Saltillo, poetry editor Keith Morris of Tupelo, and student poetry editors Connor Monaghan of Aberdeen and Jessica George of Tupelo, first place in literary magazine.             This is the sixth year in a row that ICC has won the dramatic writing category and the second year in a row, the literary magazine category.             The competition included poetry, short story, essay (creative nonfiction), literary essay, dramatic writing and college literary magazine.             First and second place winners received monetary prizes of $100 and $60, respectively.

ICC schedules speed typing, intro to Python classes at Belden Center

Registration is underway for speed typing and introduction to Python classes at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Introduction to Python, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for five weeks, begins May 15. Designed for beginners, the course provides instruction in the core concepts of Python, and students will be able to understand and complete basic programming functions. Python is a programming language that is used in data analytics, artificial intelligence and Web programming.             Speed Typing meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for five weeks beginning May 16. The instructor-led, interactive class provides the best tips and strategies to enhance typing skills to improve speed to enhance employee effectiveness, regardless of career pathway. ICC sets 2023-24 cheerleader tryouts

Itawamba Community College has scheduled its 2023-24 cheerleader tryouts for May 26 from 6-8 p.m. and May 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Fulton Campus in the Carrie Ball-Williamson Recreational Center gym.             Tryouts will include both the co-ed and all-women cheer squads.             A tryout clinic will be May 21 from 1-4 p.m. The $30 cost includes both the clinic and tryouts.             Open gym practices, which are free, will be from 4-6 p.m., May 1, 15, 22 and 29.             For tryouts, cheer participants will be required to perform a cheer, the ICC Fight Song, stunts and standing and running tumbling. The cheer and ICC Fight Song will be taught to participants at the clinics.             The first team meeting is May 27 at 3 p.m., and parents are encouraged to attend. ICC's CenterStage presents Apr. 25 spring concert

Itawamba Community College’s CenterStage, contemporary music group, has scheduled an Apr. 25 concert at the W.O.
