Unity program features Charles Moore

            Charles C. Moore, Lee County NAACP President, will be the featured speaker for a Unity Program in celebration of Black History Month, at noon, Feb. 15, at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus in the Academic and Student Center dining hall.             Moore, who is one of 16 children, is a native of Houston, where he played football for the Hilltoppers, and in 1987, for Itawamba Community College. His employment background includes a salesman in the furniture industry, police officer in Verona and self-employed for 25 years as a general contractor. He has been an ordained minister for more than 20 years, and he and his wife, Tonya (TJ), cofounded LifeCulture The Empowerment Center in Tupelo in 2016, which is a mission for the homeless and less fortunate. Moore became a member of branch 5304 NAACP in 2019. 12 sophomores selected as members of ICC's prestigious Hall of Fame

Twelve Itawamba Community College sophomores have been selected as members of the prestigious Hall of Fame for 2022-23.             They include and Kelly Barnett, Anthony Reece Cantrell, both of Amory; Lori Leachman of Bruce; Emma Grace Allen, Hayden Campbell, both of Fulton; Emory Reinhard of Mantachie; Eli Harlow of Pontotoc; Lexi Tabbs of Red Bay, Ala., Madison Collins of Shannon; Noah Jones of Smithville; and Jamarious “Jay” Salters and Mae Young, both of Tupelo.             At ICC, Allen’s activities have included Indian Delegation president, Orientation Leader, Food Pantry representative, Resident Assistant and a member of the Baptist Student Union Leadership Team, The Global Experience, Fashion Tribe, STEM Club, The Wesley Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors College, Science Club and Wesley Foundation. Among her honors are Dean’s List, Freshman and Sophomore Homecoming Maid and first runner-up in ICC’s Most Beautiful Pageant. A pre-med (biology) major, Allen is also involved in college ministry and youth group at Bethel Baptist Church. ICC registration continues for upcoming eight-week term

Registration for eight-week eLearning and traditional classes is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The deadline to register is Mar. 7 for the traditional term and Mar. 14 for the eLearning (online) session. Traditional classes begin Mar. 6, and online, Mar. 13.             ICC offers academic, career education, workforce and eLearning classes. Daniels, Allen elected 2022-23 Mr., Miss Itawamba Community College

Tykez Daniels of Starkville and Emma Grace Allen of Fulton have been elected Mr. and Miss Itawamba Community College for 2022-23                 Daniels’ activities are Indian Delegate, 2022 Orientation Leader, SGA Representative, Social Media Ambassador, All-American Marching Band, Fashion Tribe Executive, Food Pantry committee, Student Activities Board president and Student Activities student worker. He attends Second Chance Ministries. A communication major, Daniels is the son of Ebony Evans.                 At ICC, Allen’s activities have included Indian Delegation president, Orientation Leader, Food Pantry representative, Resident Assistant and a member of the Baptist Student Union Leadership Team, The Global Experience, Fashion Tribe, STEM Club, The Wesley Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors College, Science Club and Wesley Foundation. Among her honors are Dean’s List, Freshman and Sophomore Homecoming Maid and first runner-up in ICC’s Most Beautiful Pageant. Location changes for Fulton adult education classes

           Beginning Feb. 13, the location for Itawamba Community College’s adult education classes has been changed to room 202 of the Crubaugh Technical Education Building at the Fulton Campus.             Classes meet from 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Enrollment for new students is on the first and third Mondays of each month.             The free classes offer students an opportunity to complete a high school diploma, including GED and HiSET exam, ACT and WorkKeys preparation and score improvement. Work-readiness, reading, math and writing refresher skills are also offered to individuals seeking to improve their employability or educational skills. Persons enrolling in classes must be out of school and at least 16 years of age.             The classes previously met at the old Fulton Grammar School.

ICC to offer Forklift Operator class

           Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for a Forklift Operator class, which is Feb. 14 from 8 a,m, to 3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center.            Forklift Operator Training includes OSHA safety instruction, forklift simulator practice, safety check protocol, hands-on driving, loading and unloading operation. ICC offers opportunity to explore school of legal studies options

            High school seniors are invited to explore the exciting opportunities available through Itawamba Community College’s School of Legal Studies, Feb. 24, at the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus.             Interactive demonstrations will highlight opportunities in criminal justice, pre-law, paralegal and political science.             The schedule includes check-in, 9-9:30 a.m.; welcome, 9:30 a.m.; interactive demonstrations, 9:45 a.m.; and closing, 11:30 a.m.             More information is available at www.iccms.edu/legalstudiesday or by email at jmsumerel@iccms.edu.

ICC gallery features work by Victoria Cummings-Bobo

New works by artist Victoria Cummings-Bobo of Evergreen are currently on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The exhibition titled “Eshe (Eh-Sheh) = Life: An Abstract Metal Frame of Mind” features a collection of acrylic and mixed media pieces to commemorate Black History Month and will be on display until Mar. 9. Bobo’s work uses household items or something nature provides to tell colorful and vibrant stories. Her work ranges from miniature models, which reflect everyday people to vibrant paintings and statuesque colorful objects. She combines her art and her faith by using adorned mannequins to teach Sunday School classes at New Temple Baptist Church. Bobo’s love of the arts has included poetry, acting and playing the piano. After a time in New York City, she returned to Dorsey in 1987, and in 1988, Bobo and her sister, Dr. Ormella Cummings, formed We Amend Minds-By-Action, an organization devoted to introducing cultural activities and enrichment programs to young people and adults in Itawamba County and the surrounding area. ICC selects Most Beautiful, alternates at Feb. 1 pageant

Rylie Ozbirn of New Albany was selected as Itawamba Community College’s Most Beautiful 2023-24 at the conclusion of the annual pageant, which was Feb. 1 at the Fulton Campus. Winners include Sharicka Martin of Shannon, Most Photogenic; Sarah Kate Thompson of Potts Camp, fourth alternate; Alexis “Lexi” Tabbs of Red Bay, Ala., second alternate; Emma Grace Allen of Fulton, first alternate; Mary Morgan Lyle of Tupelo, third alternate; and Kaitlyn Plunkett of Fulton, Crowd Favorite. As Most Beautiful, Ozbirn will represent the College at multiple events throughout the year. All winners receive a scholarship presented by the Itawamba Community College Foundation, Inc. The event was sponsored by ICC’s The Global Experience. 

ICC celebrates STEM week with proclamation signing

Itawamba Community College President Dr. Jay Allen signed a proclamation designating Feb. 6-10 as STEM Week. The event signals the start of an amplified focus on the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at ICC, which is offering an innovative way for involvement and exploration of those areas with the creation of a STEM Club as well as a new course, Introduction to STEM Professions. Multiple activities are planned for the week including presentations by representatives of the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University, a STEM panel and the Mississippi Science Olympiad.  STEM Club members Rosy Davis, Emma Grace Allen, Payton Atkins, Abraham Garcia and Tyler Hatfield and STEM Club sponsors Heather McCormick, mathematics division chair; Bradley Howard, computer science division chair; and Dr. Jada Mills, natural science division chair, joined Dr. Allen for the special event.
