ICC choir schedules fall concert, Nov. 10

            Itawamba Community College will present its 2022 fall choral concert at 7 p.m., Nov. 10, at the W.O. CenterStage to perform Nov. 15 concert

Itawamba Community College’s CenterStage, contemporary music group, has scheduled a Nov. 15 concert at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium on the Fulton Campus.             “Oh the Places I’ll Go,” which will begin at 7 p.m., will feature selections that are associated with the theme.             The cast include Lera Winders of Amory; Hilary Little of Collierville, Tenn.; Brady Peacock of French Camp; Laura Leigh Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Zayda Patterson, all of Fulton; Lindy Monts of Mooreville; Joshua Coker of Pontotoc; Maggie Smith of Tremont; and Rodney Simpson of Tupelo.             Members of the band are Jared Brownlee, Tucker Hicks, both of Mooreville; Jesse Pettigrew, Noah Wade, both of Philadelphia; Bryan Valentin, Eliseo Fernandez, Max Wright, Michael Franklin, Juan Ramirez, all of Pontotoc; and Aubrey Meredith of Tupelo.             The crew includes Kiara Gaunt of Brandon; Jordan Laney, Lia Darracott, both of Fulton; Bryce Weaver of Tupelo; and Kenna Stockman of Vernon, Ala.             Directors are Kyle Davis of Fulton, Christy Colburn of Amory and Mandy Eaton of Booneville.             The event is free and open to the public.

ICC's enrollment increases this fall

Itawamba Community College’s fall enrollment has increased even during turbulent economic times, according to figures released by the Mississippi Community College Board.             With full-time enrollment beginning at more than 4,700 and an increase in credit hours, the increase equates to 1.3 percent.             The increase is determined by comparing enrollments for the 2021 and 2022 fall semesters. In August, ICC opened Magnolia Hall, a state-of-the-art residence for honors students and student leaders at the Fulton Campus, which accommodates 246 additional students, and an increased emphasis has been placed on student activities, said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen.             “This is very exciting news, since the increases are in headcount, full-time equivalencies and credit hours and places us on an upward trend to pre-pandemic enrollment,” Allen said. “The increase in the number of students that ICC is serving is significant because we have additional opportunities to provide a solid educational foundation and the best start for those in our five-county district and beyond.”             “Statistics show that the more students are engaged on campus, the more successful they will be in the ...

ICC Small Ensembles to perform Nov. 3

Itawamba Community College’s Small Ensembles will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Nov. 3, in the W.O. McArthur to present fifth in 'Reflecting Mississippi Series' at ICC-Fulton, Nov. 7

Danny McArthur of Tupelo, environmental justice reporter, will present “A Conversation about Southern Journalism,” Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the W. O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.             McArthur, who is employed by the Gulf States Newsroom, a regional collaboration among NPR and public radio stations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, focuses on individuals most vulnerable to climate change’s effects and the communities disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards and poor public policy. A graduate of the University of Georgia, McArthur previously spent three years as the community voices reporter for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.             The presentation is part of “Reflecting Mississippi: Finding Yourself in Mississippi’s Reflection,” made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council. Additional presentations are scheduled throughout 2022-23.

ICC schedules registration opportunity, orientation sessions beginning in November

Adult learners, transfer students and those who are being readmitted can register for the 2023 spring semester at Itawamba Community College beginning Nov. 16. December 22 high school graduates will have an opportunity to register during special orientation sessions, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8, at 1 p.m., at the Tupelo Campus.             “Orientation for December graduates is a valuable first step toward a successful college career, and ICC offers it at no cost to provide the best start for our students,” said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. It is an opportunity for students to learn about ICC, schedule their classes, take their ID photo and begin to prepare for the college transition. Nov. 1 deadline to apply for ICC spring 2023 Practical Nursing class

Nov. 1 is the deadline to apply for Itawamba Community College’s Practical Nursing class, which will begin Jan. 9.             Practical Nursing is a one-year (three-semester) program. ICC to host Summer of Science presentation, Oct. 27

Itawamba Community College will host a Summer of Science presentation, Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the David C. Cole Student Services Building at the Fulton Campus.             The presentation is the culmination of a research project between ICC and Brown University. Funding for this project was made possible by Brown University and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.             Dr. Erica Walker, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Brown University School of Public Health, will be a special guest. She has extensive experience with both environmental exposure assessments and modeling, community surveying and community engagement, focusing on air, noise, visual and water pollution. She practices storm chasing science, which she defines as directing her resources and attention to areas that are typically overlooked. Her credentials include the bachelor’s degree from Simmons University, master’s degree from Tufts University and doctorate from Harvard T.H. Registration for a four-week eLearning session is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             Classes begin on November 14, which is the registration deadline.             ICC offers academic, career education, workforce and eLearning classes.
